installing C7 on a laptop with Win7, dual boot
...until you've installed the system, and it
won't notice the windows partition(s) there until you've installed
ntfs-3g. But it sets up the grub config at install time, so you get
a system apparently without windows support.
A newbie (which I'm not) would certainly find this confusing/disheartening.
Thanks again for the solution I needed!

MacBook Pro and CentOS-5
After a long, and quite disheartening, series of hardware problems
with my HP laptop I decided to try out a Mac (late 2009 Intel based

to be no significant improvement and I have grown tired of the
persistent wireless connectivity problems and am totally put off by...

[LLVMdev] Stub LLVM backend wanted
I'm trying to port LLVM to a new architecture. I'm finding that the
initial bootstrapping stage of getting something which will build, even
if it doesn't work, is complex and rather disheartening --- there's this
huge cliff of difficulty in just getting all the boilerplate laid out
correctly, before getting to the fun stuff. The other backends are of
limited use here because, of course, they're cluttered up with code due
to being real backends.
So: does anyone have a stub backen...

Reporting a Complaint
...from the first bug. He replied in more, rather unfriendly, terms and essentially brushed off my replies to his queries and abruptly closed the bug. I understand what he is trying to say to me (in terms of what I should do to provide more helpful information in a bug report) but I am particularly disheartened by the inappropriate and distasteful tone and wording with which he replied to me. My question is, then, where and to whom could I file a complaint regarding this individual's behavior in Wine's bugzilla?

Lost connection to MySQL server during query
I just downloaded and installed Ruby on Rails to a Win XP SP1 OS using
XAMPP.
I started going through the beginner tutorials at rubyonrails.org. It
appears as though Ruby on Rails is operating properly until I try to
access the MySQL database I created for it. Then the browser displays a
detailed statement created by Ruby. It is titled:

Ahh yes, good tip.
I'm pretty sure dual-boot on CentOS is de-emphasized or maybe flat out
not supported, is probably why ntfs3-g isn't on the installer media.
On Fedora, that's a required based package because of explicit dual
boot support, and it's necessary because the insta...

AS-unsafe functions (namely, malloc() and getenv()) "safer" in
practice, despite permission from POSIX allowing glibc to throw
caution to the wind and claim deadlocks to be the progammer's bug

reality is indeed disheartening, but this may be a good time to open
up bug requests to the documentation team(s) that can improve it for
the next reader.
Deadlock avoidance is one of the harder topics in computer science;
I'm glad that glibc is going out of their way to make fork()/exec()

where to buy a SIP phone or adapter in SFBay area?
I'd like to buy a SIP phone from a retail store, or from

Can anyone suggest a place from which I can make such

So far, I've only found online.
Thanks.

Some notes...(and a compliment for Samba people)
On friday I was having a heck of a time using Samba...especially in regard
to CUPS and printing. I posted on the list some big questions about my setup
and what could be done with it, and was a little disheartened not to get an
answer.
Later that day, completely out of the blue, I received a long-distance call
from John H. Terpstra, one of the Samba lead people. He must have tracked
down my company name and phone number from my email address. We ended up
talking for about an hour about my setup (Linux, n...

That's correct. There was a bug fixed after 2.4 release.

Hiya,
I've run into a problem on a Samba 4.5.8 active directory domain
controller. The domain controller seems to work to authenticate against (I
have a couple of domain members). However wbinfo throws an error when used
locally. My configs are posted at the bottom of the page.

run stages in puppet 2.6
hello guys,
I am trying to incorporate run stages into my puppet setup. I''ve been
working with this for a few days and I haven''t quite got the hang of
it yet...
When I attempt my puppet run this is the error I see:

Yes, the libnss_winbind.so is in place. PAM is irrelevant in this
situation. The OS is Arch Linux.
So having taken your golden advice and removed those lines.... I am in
exactly the same place I was when I first posted just in a slightly more
disheartened mood at the community.

installing C7 on a laptop with Win7, dual boot
Hi all!
I've just installed C7 on my netbook that already contained Win7 (and
also Fedora 19, which the C7 is intended to replace). The Fedora installer
had found the windows installation and it appeared in the grub menu,
and was bootable and worked fine.
The C7 installer did not put the windows installation into the grub
menu.
with some googling I found a page at
