fast code
Hello, I have two vectors x1 and x2 both in increasing order. I want to select the x1[j]th entry which is the max min of the x2[i]th entry. I can do this using if and for statements but is there a quick way to do it without running a loop? Thank you in advance, Pantelis

fir_mem16,iir_mem16 and filter_mem16 optimisations
Hi! I have some questions about that functions: fir_mem16, iir_mem16 and filter_mem16. Filtering is very slow on TI DSP, and i want to optimise it. Can somebody give me formulas which discribe work of this filters? Or any suggestions about how to transform code for better performance. I going to implement this functions in assembler, but it is hard to do without full understanding how functions work.

GLMs: Negative Binomial family in R?
...(stream reaches) over two air photo dates, hence the mixed effect. I have been using Dr. Jim Lindsey's GLMM function found in his "repeated" measures package with the "poisson" family. My problem though is that I don't think the poisson distribution is the right one to discribe my data which is overdispersed; the variance is greater than the mean. I have read that the "negative binomial" regression models can account for some of the differences among observations by adding in a error term that independent of the the covariates. I haven't yet come across a...

Plots Without Displaying
...ailing List, I'd like to generate a plot that I could display and/or store it as e.g. jpeg. But unfortunately always a plotting window opens. Is it possible to prevent that? I tried the following: R> bp<-boxplot( sample(100), plot=FALSE) This works somehow, but it only stores data (as discribed in the help) in bp and it is not possible afaik to display bp later on or store them as a jpeg. The next: R> p<-plot(sample(100), sample(100), plot=FALSE) ..and also a variant using jpeg() didn't work at all. Is there a way to generally store the plots as object, without displaying the...

Here I have the values 0.00-0.30 Can anyone discribe it by his own words? I do not understand the help. Thanks, Conny --

How S3method() is implemented and called? And when to use it?
R-exts.pdf discribes S3method a little bit. But I want to understand more on how it is called, implemented and when to use it. I don't find it in an R session. But I see S3method() in some NAMESPACE files. > S3method Error: object 'S3method' not found > ?S3method No documentation for 'S3method&...

Windows 2000 boot to ram
Hi all, I found a strange behavior in memdisk: I build an image of Windows 2000 (Fat32) with geometric of C=115 H=255 S=63. I testet it as a real harddisk and it works. I boot it to ram with memdisk initrd=w2000.img from my first harddrive, as discribed to boot with syslinux. It crashs with reboot, the time is to short to recognice the appearing letters before reboot. (Can I stop the screen?) Thats nothing new to me, I know this behavior from many USB Sticks. If I change the geometrie to C=229 H=128 S=63 it stops with NTLDR not found. But an i...

Why are coefficient estimates using ML and REML are different in lme?
Hi, All,   My data collection is from 4 regions (a, b, c, d). Within each region, it has 2 or 3 units. Within each unit, it has measurement from about 25 sample site. I was trying to use lme function to discribe relationship between y and a few covariates. Both y and covariates were measured at the sample site level. My question is when I use exactlly the same model but choose different estimation method (ML vs REML), I got quite different coefficients esimate for fixed effect and variance estimate for ran...

urgent TEQL problem
OK, I spammed the mailing list recently, but I will be fired if I can''t solve the problem today. (just kidding, but I did waste lots of time on it :( ) The common configuration for teql is for two computers connected directly with two links. My topology is a little different: one link is connected directly, but the other is connected through a gateway. My problem is teql can''t

public folder subscriptions sync issue with ldap user/group in dovecot-acl
Hello people, I am having an issue with 'doveadm sync'. I am currently trying to have two dovecots behind an haproxy (works fine). Therefore I configured these two dovecot server (imap-1/imap-2) to sync throught dsync. This works just partly. The sync of the maiboxes is fine, but the sync of the subscriptions file just works partly. It works for private folder subscription, but not

tinc on macosx
Hi, I have macosx 10.5.8 and Tunnelblick (openvpn) installed before. I have installed tinc using port and got version 1.0.11 (Jun 29 2010 15:10:51) now I have 2 problems: 1) the interface variable from the tinc.conf is not used, instead I have a tun0 interface (or tap0). 2) the tinc-up script seems to be fired too early as I get an error: ifconfig: interface /dev/tap0 does not exist when I run
