OpenGL issues in Wine 32bit on Debian 64bit
Hey there, I tried to build me a 32bit Wine on my Debian Squeeze system today, all worked relatively fine, however now I am running into problems: I have installed Steam and downloaded Team Fortress 2. The download and all worked nicely, but when I now try to start the game, it just shows the dialog with like "Starting Team Fortress 2...", which then proceeds to disappear, doing nothing

Counter Strike Source Won't load.
Okay so I have just installed Fedora 16 64-bit. Coming from a Ubuntu user I'm well aware that counter strike source works great under linux. I've been trying to get it to work but every time I try to load it, it loads for a moment and then crashes. I have the proprietary AMD ATI drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 5750. They seem to be rendering fine according to the debugger. I'm currently

MCollective discovery - we did not discover any nodes
Hi everyone, I run MCollective 1.2.1 together with ActiveMQ 5.5 under Scientific Linux 6.1 on Amazon EC2. Overall it works like a charm, but sometimes (eg. 1/30) discovery fails. Still the exit-code of mco will be 0, which is a problem for me as I use MCollective e.g. to trigger deployments from Jenkins. I would like to ask for some feedback on the following ideas, that could fix this problem.

Subgroup discovery in R
I would very much like to apply "subgroup discovery" techniques to some of the data I am analyzing at this moment. Subgroup discovery is an interesting approach and is quite well known in the Data Mining community, though in essence it is a purely statistical approach. To read an introductory article see "Subgroup discovery and visualization methods"

Samba, IPv6, turning off NetBT and Network discovery
Hi, I hope this hasn't already been discussed to death, but I didn't find the answer through Google. In short, my question is: how can I advertise a Samba server through UPnP/Network Discovery? I'm currently using Samba 3.2.6, but should be able to upgrade if needed. I am trying to build an IPv6-only network, for now just for testing purposes. The problem I am having is that

Disable guest discovery in virt-manager
Hi all, on CentOS7 / RHEL7 launching virt-manager causes a "discovery process" of the various configured VMs. This discovery is executed by inspection and overlayed disk files and it create a very short lived guest-xxxzzzyyy virtual machine. The end result is a pretty icon to the left of the virtual machine entry (ie: CentOS icon for a CentOS VM) and the list of installad packages

Blocking workgroup discovery
Hi all, At my work I`ve set up a VPN. When I connect to it, my colleagues see all the workgroups from my side of the VPN (I live on a campus with ~50 workgroups). Do you know how I block the workgroup discovery on through the VPN gateway? Is the broadcast done on a specific port? Is samba actively repeating the broadcast and their replies? Greetings Tjerk Jan

PMTU Discovery
Dear Guus, while improving the PMTU Discovery algorithm, I found the following behavior in the method "send_udppacket": 1) The code checks, whether the data size is smaller than the MTU, thus if it fits into a single UDP packet. If not, you send the packet via TCP. 2) The data is compressed, changing its size. (Usually, making it smaller, but that's not always

ZFS hang and boot hang when iSCSI device removed
We''re currently evaluating ZFS prior to (hopefully) rolling it out across our server room, and have managed to lock up a server after connecting to an iSCSI target, and then changing the IP address of the target. Basically we have two test Solaris servers running, and I followed the instructions on the post below to share a zpool on Server1 using the iSCSI Target, and then import that

[RFC, PATCH] core/pxe: Add architecture-specific discovery request for PXE config file
Ok, that makes sense. PXELINUX had become a de facto standard and has in fact been extended with ipv6 support by agreement between me and Peter Jones, used in at least some versions of Grub. Here is the problem I see: arch discovery is orthogonal with address-based discovery. It creates a complex problem because we don't want to try all possible combinations. One option is to have an

off topic but need your pointers about statistics
Hi all, I apologize for this off-topic question but I need your help -- I know there are lots of experts here. As a lover and student of statistics, I am thinking of building a tree of various branches of statistics and keeping track of the greatest historical inventions/discoveries in statistics and the latest development of each branch. The goal is to understand in what context did the great inventions come out and then try to follow the greatest minds in terms of creating future significant inventions/discoveries in the statistics field... This is the "learn-from-the...

[PATCH] change old style SASL discovery code
Hello, this patch reworks old-style SASL discovery code. With this patch applied it advertises all configured SASL mechanisms. It makes possible for MS Outlook to use all installed security service providers (SSP), so if someone crazy enough will write CRAM-MD5 or DIGEST-MD5 SSP we'll support it readily :) Please consider applying. Best regards. -- Andrey Panin | Linux and UNIX system
