Disable clear screen
...reen when people do a kickstart fro mthe prompt using eg: ksdevice=<MAC address> I personally think that the clear screen is unwanted in most cases since people can add that to the boot message (ctrl-L) if they need it. If all the drivers in POST would do a clear screen, it would be very discomforting and even if syslinux is an exception (being the last one in the row) removing vital messages just before could lead to undetected problems. -- -- dag wieers, dag at wieers.com, http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [Any errors in spelling, tact or fact are transmission errors]

an(other) anova question
...address I posted this from originally is no longer functional] Hello, I think I could do with some suggestions concerning the following problem. I have data from a set of experiments on motion sickness where for each subject, I have 1) personal data like age and gender 2) a subjective rating of discomfort/sickness, on a 10-level scale, "sampled" by the subjects as changes occurred. This rating is normalised per subject to the individual maxima given: Sickness.norm . 3) a conclusive, objective rating sick/not-sick. (WasSick) 4) various objective observables, sampled throughout the experimen...

CentOS 7.1 user login screen can't scroll up/down
...User interface decisions are never driven by security. If security is mentioned then it is used as a fig-leaf to shut down dissent. Security when applied to these sorts of decisions is the patriotism of the FOSS world. The last refuge of scoundrels who have no desire to admit error and wish no discomfort from making any. The actual reasons for change usually come down to the aesthetic values of a small group of developers, or often a single individual, with the power to impose their vision on the rest of humanity. And the desire to do so. I cannot imagine why. . . -- *** E-Mail is NOT...

potential enterprise rails project
...rage web app, and below big enterprise apps, are these things necessary, or would rails do the job, just perhaps with double the hardware ? 2) We are currently a Windows shop. Is it foolish to run a high-level Rails app on Windows servers today ? We have agreed to use SQL Server - just to ease the discomfort of going non-MS in other areas, no technical reason. 3) If we begin with Rails, does it require anything that would limit the design for future migration to ASP.NET at a later stage ? 4) For a compromise solution is it possible/sensible to run C#/ADO.NET for the core business logic, and Rails for...

It is better than the unemployment discomfort. - use more WebEX meetings than flying people around. Money you save for your company will help you in retaining others, and yourselves. Most of the airlines money goes to the foreign oil providers anyways. - shop for cheaper open...

Using R for devices trial
I would like to use R for submissions to FDA/CDRH (the medical device company I work for currently uses only SAS). Previous postings to the list regarding R and 21 CFR 11 compliance have been very helpful. However, reluctance to using open source software for statistical analyses and reporting remains high here at my company. Has anyone used R for an official submission to FDA/CDRH? It would

resize images
Hi, I am looking for the best solution to resize images to fit within a certain area. The images will only be made smaller if they will not fit within a fixed size area. It is important to maintain the same proportions. This ImageMagick extension looks promising: http://vantulder.net/rails/magick/ However, I believe it may be overkill for just resizing images sometimes. I have also seen a

Picking apart the rails codebase / transitioning from novice
Alright, I''ve done some tinkering and I''ve read through the DHH book. I''d like to humbly solicit some advice from the rails gurus. I''d like to get a real firm grip, and it seems that navigating the actual codebase might be the best course of action. Any advice as to the best route to take for maximum comprehension? What would be the most sensible way to

RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
...r suggestions for consideration, I’d welcome it. Does the FreeBSD project see any value in the patent coverage provided by the Apache 2 license, or is it really a net negative? In your opinion, would this cause the FreeBSD to look to abandon use of LLVM code, or would it just cause some amount of discomfort/unhappiness? -Chris

Is there somewhere I can look to resolve this? Something anybody has come across? It is happening frequently and with great discomfort to many users. I had upgraded from 1.2.x to latest 1.4.x in attempts to resolve this. I also disabled a lot of COM/LPT and USB devices in the BIOS to free up some IRQ's. no devices are sharing IRQ's at this point, with I thought might have been part of the issue, but has proved to at least...

Samba PDC + Winbind
...liminate race conditions derived from multiple Samba servers accessing the same password database. Which brings me to Winbind... My choice was to elminate the use of LDAP for authentication, and do everything through pam_smbpass. This works fine for all the machines in the network, except for my discomfort with point 3 above. By doing this, I can truly unify logons, albeit some authentication is not synched (namely, logon to LDAP proper, as it does not use the PDC or PAM for authentication, instead using the Linux password, which coincides with the LDAP password - others may also be affected, but I...
