Disapearing Drives
I have been having a problem with my Samba server for about a month now
and need help. I am having users mysteriously losing access to drives
during the day. The drive will un-map itself and any further attempt to
access it through wither Windows Explorer or just typing the UNC in the
"Run" window will result in a "Drive or path not accessible" error. On

Disapearing print share
Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu Lucid; every so often, a workstation cannot print.
Restarting Samba fixes it. I finally noticed that, when broken, the
print share no longer shows up in 'smbclient -L'. And, I get messages in
the logs like:

drbd + ext3 + interbase + data lost
Hello All,
Yesterday, one of our customer's cluster(2 box) server goes down after a
I/O error during the backup procedure. When we turn on the cluster
again, the 600M database file have been lost, disapear.
Now, I'm with one of the disks (the other was used to rebuild the
database server) and need to know how can I recover any piece of data
from the disk.
After the crash we mount the disk's partition read-only just to see the
damage. We tried debugfs but it didn't find any deleted file....

Windows XP Files Disapearing
When I mount a drive via Windows XP and copy a file via Samba, the file appears to be copied. When I refresh the window in Windows Explorer, however, it disappears! When I copy the *same* file a second time, Windows asks me if I want to *replace* the file (as if it were there but I just can't see it). withe the latest cvs (and a few days ago) I've got a lot's of such
process on the maiul server (and the number of such processes just
growing:-((().
anyway the login problem disapear as I use dovecot as pam module name
(both for impa and pop3).

Where can I find compress and uncompress?

Utilities compress and uncompress seem to have disapeared when I migrate

Samba 3.5.8 - windows XP workstations disapear from browselist
...rk. Workstations that connects to it runs
various kind of OS. This includes:
1x Windows 95 (Brother Printer)
8x Windows XP <=problematic!
2x Windows Visa
2x Windows 7
1x Samba 3.5.8 (WINS,DNS, supose to be LMB)
There is a serious problem with a browselist. Ever single windows XP
workstations disapear from browselist after an about 24 - 28 minutes
after workstation powerup or smbd restart. After this they are still
accesable by hostname, netbiosname, and ip. Other workstations are
visible as they should be and don't disapear.

On april 17th, I upgraded from dovecot 2.1.13 to 2.2.0. Since that time,
I had two different users that reported received three incident of
messages that disapeared from their mailboxes.
The mailbox format is mbox on local FFS filesystem (no NFS), and I use
filesystem quotas (but both users are far from filling their quotas).
When the message disapeared, it was always a whole rand of dates. On the
last incident reported, the user also saw some message bein...

print queue problem
I'am running Linux as server.My printer is conected to an win98 client.
It works fine, at least when the client and the printer are online.
When I print from my Linux machine and the win98 not connected,
the printcommand just disapear. "lpq" gives "no entries".
Where does the printcommand go then?
My problem is that in case I print from the Linux server and the
win98 client is not connected, or the printer is offline the print
command is not queued for later printing when the win98 client
and/or the print...

RAM disapeared?
Hello,
I have some dom0 which have 8GB RAM, but when I look with xm list, it
just shows me 6GB,
I need to setup some new VM, each with 1GB, so I should have with 3VM
still 5GB free,
but im only seeing 3GB.
Can I just create 2 new VM with each 1GB and still have 3GB for the dom0?

Sweave : some comments disappear
Dear R-helpers,
when I have an R code chunk in a sweave file like this:

The first comment does not appear in the sweaved document, the second
one does. How can this be?
I have tried print=TRUE and keep.source=TRUE, but neither seem to
affect this behavior.

LSI MegaRAID experience...
...s ( RAID1 + hostswap).
2 weeks (and almost no activity on it, since not in production, apart from installation) later, megacli sees (based on the slot numbers):
- on one server: only the 2nd disk of the RAID + the ex-hotswap brought online. NO sign of the first disk, no error message, it just "disapeared"...
- on another server: apparently lost 1 of the 2 RAID1 disks and then the second disk of the RAID1...? Now I can only see the spare brought online, so lonely...
Is it "normal" for megacli to "hide" failed disks?
Controller's firmware is the latest.

bsnmpd always died on HDD detach
I am running bsnmpd with basic snmpd.config (only community and location
changed).
When there is a problem with HDD and disk disapeared from ATA channel
(eg.: disc physically removed) the bsnmpd always dumps core:
kernel: pid 1188 (bsnmpd), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
I see this for a long rime on all releases of 7.x and 8.x branches (i386
and amd64). I did not tested 9.x.
Is it a known bug, or should I file PR?...

Solaris / OpenSolaris
I'm having some difficulties pxe booting Solaris. So far I have tried
the mboot.c32, and the pxegrub shipped with Solaris. At first I had some
problems with blksize, but this disapeared when I changed from atftpd to
tftpd-hpa. The point at which I'm stuck now is, the kernel and
x86.microroot/x86.miniroot is loaded but then VMWare crashes. I might
try with real hardware, but I thought that VMWare had full support for
Solaris / PXE booting.
