best practice backup
Hi there,
I am using tar to backup the whole system (specific directorues usr, lib, sbin, etc, var, home, root).
On bare metal recovery I install the minimal portion of the syetm and then I throw the tarballs.
Any opinions?

Cannot mount samba shares
Hi,
quick(?) question: Has anybody seen that problem below? More important
question: Did anybody solve that?
This is my smb.conf (well, only the most important parts):
[global]
workgroup = FOOBAR

domain master = No
dns proxy = No

Still stuck with Samba on Solaris 10

with the result that I can't seem to get Active Directory support enabled.
I can get Samba 3.5.3 compiled with "--enable-shared=no" with the result
that active directory support is enabled but zfs support is skipped, and
that "make nsswitch" fails. (Active Directoru support assumes that
openldap is installed.) I don't actually need active directory support at
the moment but it seems to be a symptom of the bigger compile issue. And I
would like to be able to compile with AD support just to make sure
everything is working properly.

If I open \\server1\ I see a folder dfs (and smbdoc),
if I try to request properties from dfs I get:
'The properties for this item are not available'
(I can open the smbdoc properties, smbdoc is a normal share
pointing to samba's documentation directorue on the server)
If I open the \\server1\dfs share, I see folders pblc and tst.
If I try to open (for example) tst I get:
'\\server1\dfs\tst is not accessible, the folder was moved or removed'
If I open \\icadfs\ I also see dfs and smbdoc again.
I can ask properties for both shares.
