Why I reinvented the wheel with M3F
Daniel, nobody has accused you of reinventing the wheel. You give up too easily. If you want to develop a standard, it takes a lot of discussion and input - and it takes diplomacy. Attacking people and attacking the community will not be helpful. You have asked for feedback - feedback has been given. Now it's time to think and digest. I for one have been motivated by the topic of discussion,

All, but once, I've used it as second DC in conjunction with a Windows AD server, joining it to an existing domain. Granted, this is the first time I've used it with a 2008R2 AD domain and forest level. Before I spent anyone else's time on this, I wiped it completely (down to new disk labels) and still run into this error. It is good to know that it should be working. If anyone

indexing a particular element in a list of vectors
I have a "list" of character vectors. I'm trying to see if there is a way (in a single line, without a loop) to pull out the first element of all the vectors contained in the list. listOfVectors[1:length(listOfVectors][1] doesn't work. ========================== If you want more details.. Here is my listOfVectors which is called "uuu" >

I never made any assumption athat anyone had any obligation to do anything
I just asked a question. If I was too vague, then i am sorry. I dont expect anyone to help me, but I thought that it was ok to put the question out there in case someone wanted to help me. I didnt expect abject hostility for it. Human decency was the only thing I did expect. If my question was a pain,badly formatted, or too juvinile, then i have no problem being ignored.I asked a question

Changes to inodes discovered by aide
Hi. On one of my servers aide just reported inode changes to a large bunch of files in a variety of directories, e.g. /usr/bin, /usr/sbin etc. This machine sits behind a couple of firewalls and it would be hard to get to. The day before I updated "clam*" and updated the aide database right after that: -rw------- 1 root root 7407412 Sep 26 10:58 aide.db.gz The problem was that the

I have read that so many times. I started out with the simple, prompted 'samba-tool domain join' and built up from there. Version is: Samba 4.7.6 from Ubuntu (18.04.2) Interesting what happens when I take out --site directive (see below). root at DC2:~# samba-tool domain join DOMAIN1.DOMAIN DC --username='DOMAIN1\EnterpriseAdminUser' --realm='DOMAIN1.DOMAIN'

Mount USB disk at startup?
I have a CentOS 5 machine with an external 500G USB disk, formatted with JFS. How do I get this to mount automatically at boot time? If I add to /etc/fstab: /dev/sdb1 /var/video jfs defaults 1 2 fsck.jfs complains at boot time: Error: Cannot open device /dev/sdb1 Usage: fsck.jfs ... ... Give root password for maintenance ... If I log in with the root password, /dev/sdb1 is present, and I

apply --> data.frame
Is there a way for an apply-type function to return a data frame? the closest thing I think of is foo <- as.data.frame(sapply(...)) names(foo) <- c(....) is there a more "elegant" way? So we have two different Samba servers we are trying to connect to what was originally a Windows 2003 AD and was raised to 2008R2 (both Forest and Domain). (We really only need to connect one of them - the one hosting Samba 4.7.6). Any ideas or suggestions are helpful! We've scoured the lists (Rowland - you are amazing), but still not found what is wrong (we think it is probably a config

Dear Prof Ripley, First of all, unless you are an english professor, then I do not think you have any business policing language. I'm still very much a student, both in R, and regarding signal analysis. My competence on the subject as compared too your own level of expertise, or my spelling for that matter, may be a contension for you, but it would have been better had you kept that opinion
