PHP Dingus Fix
I just realised I hadn't updated the version of PHP Markdown and Extra on the dingus as I pretended I did in my two announcements. It is now fixed: PHP Markdown 1.0.2b7 and PHP Markdown Extra 1.1b1 can now be tested on the dingus. <http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/dingus/> Sorry for any inconvenience. where are the worthwhile markdown dingi?
where are the worthwhile markdown dingi? (dinguses?) i'm interested in any dingus that can take a "reasonable" amount of text -- let's say anything up to a megabyte -- and return the results in real-time, without a long wait... ideally it'd handle something more than gruber-minimum, and an a.p.i. (that'd take a u.r.i....

my scala markdown implementation
...ot; (not very imaginative, I know). However, I need John's permission to use the name "Markdown", I think. Is he reading this list or can you get me in contact with him? Is it OK to use that name? If not, I will of course come up with something different. 2. I have built a "Web Dingus" so my implementation can be previewed in a browser. Again, is it a problem to call it "Scala-Markdown Web Dingus"? I have also copied the cheat sheet that the PHP Markdown Dingus and John's original Dingus display and wanted to ask if it is OK to include that in my site. Otherwi...

bug in maruku with single-element nested unordered list?
This does not produce the expected output, yet does work on the dingus [1]: * asdf * asdf >> require ''maruku'' => true >> doc = Maruku.new("* asdf\n * asdf\n") => md_el(:document,[ md_el(:ul,[md_el(:li_span,["asdf * asdf"],{:want_my_paragraph=>false},[])],{},[]) ],{},[]) >> doc.to_html => "&...

parsing question - lists and blockquotes
I'm using the PHP port of Markdown, but I noticed the same effect on your dingus <http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/dingus> The problem I'm seeing is when I have an bulleted list and the last item of the list contains a block quote. The blockquote does not terminate correctly, and adding another blockquote after the list ends up extending the original bl...

writing tools that use light-markup
let's talk about writing tools that use markdown (or more broadly, another form of light-markup)... to begin with, there is the markdown "dingus"... from a demo perspective, it has been _fantastic_. it has provided interested observers a quick idea about the simplicity and the power of markdown. as a writing tool, it's a bit clunky; it will work, yes, but i'd doubt many people are using it regularly... as an additional concer...

Inline HTML link and mailto: link

And do [drop us a line] (mailto:feedback at swanlotus.com) with your comments for improvement. I tried it out on Dingus and failed to get the expected HTML version like: We invite you to <a href="http://academy.swanlotus.com/index.html">browse</a> this website. Take a look and see if you find anything useful. And do <a href="mailto:feedback at swanlotus.com">drop us a line&l...

Trouble with parentheses in Markdown hyperlinks
...low says "not my problem", so I'm deferring to Markdown itself. Here's a sample<https://raw.github.com/gist/3909246/1885a4d509fb555c158208d9bfc319b9f8f95039/urls.md>Markdown document on Gist. All but the final hyperlink fail to be functional. You can verify this behavior in Dingus<http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/dingus>. I'd paste my sample directly in Gmail, but it would actually fix the URLs and obscure the problem. I believe this is easily fixed by altering the regex responsible for parsing [name](url) syntax to be lazy rather than eager. -- Chee...

a blade of grass cracks the sidewalk
spring has sprung, so on this day of grass, i guess i just can't hold this back any more. > http://zenmagiclove.com/aarp2.py voila. a dingus for zen markup language. lighter than markdown. _and_ more powerful... i know. wha? go figure. not that it's a competition. supporters will love finally seeing a look. detractors will love the bugs i left in there, just for them, as easter eggs in the grass... -bowerbird --------------...

Using Markdown locally
Markdown is a fantastic program (which I am sure you already know). It saves me a lot of time. Currently, I use the dingus located at: http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/dingus However, I am trying to set one up just like that, locally - on my own system, without having to use that one (wasting the bandwidth, and having to switch to the site every time to use it). I am running Ubuntu. (I have seen some alte...

problems with escaping backticks
I can't escape backticks if on a line with other code: $ echo 'maybe use `fixed face` for `/path/to/file` by using \`back ticks\` around it' | /usr/pkg/bin/Markdown <p>maybe use <code>fixed face</code> for <code>/path/to/file</code> by using \<code>back ticks\</code> around it</p> and this is even more wrong: $ echo 'maybe use

md2html.awk and a question
...different from other implementations. Now, I'm in the process of rewriting it and I'm trying to do it as compatible as possible. There are many questions I have, I know some test suites and am trying to pass those tests. When I don't know how to handle a corner case I use to check with Dingus. I would really appreciate if somebody could explain me the output of this text: this paragraph is outside of list blocks * #this is not a h1 * ##this is not a h2 * ###and this is not a h3 * but the next one is #an h1! inside a list ite...

Entity conversion glitch?
Hello, Given the following text: under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD instead. Daring Fireball's Markdown Dingus produces: <p>under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD instead.</p> Note how the '&' is not escaped to '&amp;'. Bug? Feature? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, PA.

spelling with <g>?
Hello, What should the following input produce? Dutch has shifted Germanic g to the velar fricatives [?] and [x], but retained the spelling with <g> and thus at least a visual similarity to German; English and Frisian have shifted g to [j] before palatal vowels The Dingus says: <p>Dutch has shifted Germanic g to the velar fricatives [?] and [x], but retained the spelling with <g> and thus at least a visual similarity to German; English and Frisian have shifted g to [j] before palatal vowels</p> Note the raw '<g>', which doesn&...

Markdown doesn't always generate XHTML
...lo everybody, I've just noticed that markdown doesn't always generate XHTML. In particular the input <script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js"> generates the output: <p><script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js"></p> (This is the markdown dingus at daring fireball, and the markdownj implementation exhibits the same problem. I havn't checked other implementations of markdown.) I have two issues with this: 1. The script tag isn't closed, which means it's not valid XML (and thus not valid XHTML). 2. It's a security issue...

Backtick Hickup
I'm using Michel Fortin's MDTest cases to rewrite my html2text.php script. A year has passed and I implemented nothing. I looked back at that old thread recently to rediscover the s...

PHP Markdown 1.0.2b7
...se for PHP Markdown, following Markdown.pl 1.0.2b7 from a few weeks ago. It fix the same bugs, and some more; it also introduce more radical backend changes. It can be downloaded here: <http://www.michelf.com/docs/projets/php-markdown-1.0.2b7.zip> and you can test it on the PHP Markdown Dingus: <http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/dingus/> This version inaugurates the truly extensible version of PHP Markdown which should make it a lot easier to write extensions, like my own PHP Markdown Extra. If you want to create your own extension, I suggest to take a look at th...
