VMs XML difinitions can't be recognized after upgrading to libvirt 0.9.13
I used to run many VMs on my Ubuntu 10.04 box. However, after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 (and thus, libvirt 0.9.13), The VMs can't be recognized anymore. Nothing appears in the output of 'virsh list --all', nor in virt-manager. When I created a new VM based on a disk image of one of the not-recognized-any-more VMs, a new schema file has been auto-generated, and the new VM now is

Winbind PAM authentication
Config: Solaris 8, OpenLDAP winbind backend, using AD for global users. Is there documentation on what service_name / module_type pairs are supported by pam_winbind? I've gone through the Samba-3 HOWTO book and internet searches, but haven't found anything difinitive. I have been able to tell through experimentation that winbind doesn't work with "rsh auth", giving a

NetworkManager under CentOS 4 *without* GNome...
...does NetworkManager/NetworkManagerInfo get information about available network interfaces? I know that *both* interfaces work just fine using the manual startup (eg ifup eth0 and ifup eth1). Is there a config file I need to mess with? If so, where is it? I tried googling and could not find any difinitively usefull information (http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/nm.shtml has some information for FC5, but it is not totally helpful). -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 Deepwoods Software -- Download the Model Railroad System http://www.deepsoft.com/ -- Binaries for Linux and MS-Windows...

single storage server
I have a single storage server which exports /data to number of clients. Is it ok to access the data on the storage server directly (ie not via glusterfs mount) ? (I know this causes problems when there are multiple servers ). This would simplify some configurations. Nick

call "load balancing"
Hello All, Wondering what sort of real world mileage people are getting out of different internet connecions - i.e. different DSL connection speeds, cable modems, etc... Is it reasonable to hope to carry 10 - 15 concurrent calls on a 768K DSL? I'm not talking about theoretical BW or looking for any difinitive absolute guarantee... With DSL and Cable - there is no guarantee, so I'm

Codeweavers vs. RedHat distribution?
I am using the version of wine that came with RedHat 7.2. I just noticed that Codeweavers has their own distribution of wine that includes what looks like a convenient setup configuration utility. What are the pros and cons of uninstalling what I got from RedHat and downloading and installing the rpm from Codeweavers? Thanks

UID for CIFS mounts
Hi, Appologies if this is obvious, but the documentation isn't clear to me, and my google skills don't seem to be up tp scratch today. Basically: If I mount a CIFS share as on a linux box, and then multiple users on that machine use that share, who do they use it as? The user that mounted or themselves (users are authenticated via pam + winbind on the linux box) Is it possible to have

When to use Echo Cancellation cards?
In what scenarios non-Echo Cancellation cards (T1/E1/FXO) should be used ? Don't all good and professional installations need echo cancellation cards? Are there people out there with non-Echo Cancellation cards for T1 or 8 FXO ports and who really don't have any echo issues and they are running serious businesses? -- Zeeshan A Zakaria -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

[alert] DST change and date comparisons
Description of Problem We are rapidly approaching the time of year when some will transition from standard time (ST) to daylight savings time (DST) and others will make the opposite transition. These vernal and autumnal transitions have important implications for those with Microsoft systems and use utilities that compare file timestamps on different filesystem types or with filesystems on other

Problems loading CentOS 4.4 on ASUS M2N-MX mobo
I have a brand new ASUS MB model M2N-MX which is giving me issues when installing Centos 4.4 64 bit I initially had problems with finding the SATA drives but I resolved that issue by simply selecting the NVIDIA SATA (sata_nv)driver from the list of drivers during the initial install. The install seemed to go fine after that as the installer uses the Generic VESA video driver during the install,

Components going out of style?
I see in the new Agile Rails 2nd edition that components are going out of style? Is this so? has anybody abandoned the idea of components for helpers? Specifically I''m considering a menu sytem for a website that depends heavily on the users permissions to decide which menu options a user would need to see. I thought that components, since they have the logic in the controller and
