upgrading form 4.2 to 5.x
...familier with the
make buildworld procedure however there have been significant changes
between 4.2 & 5.x so is this something that can be done without many
problems ? Aside from reading throught the /usr/src/UPDATING file are
there things i should look out for being that the 2 versions are so
differrent.
personally i would recommend going to the lastest stable release 4.10-p2
I welcome this lists thoughts & opions on this matter
thank in advance for any help :-)

Logging into WIndows 2000 ADS from Linux Clients
...join -U user1". This went well and showed me as joined to the domain.
I have set up test users "user1" and "user2" in both the windows domain as well as on the FC1 machines. The passwords of the above users on the local FC1 machines and the Windows 2000 ADS machines are differrent. (The reason I have kept these differrent is to test that the login using the Windows 2000 username and password works.)
The problem that I face is this:
1. I cannot log in at the FC1 GUI login prompt (I'm using gnome) using the windows username (user1 or user2) and password. I can only...

mp3-wav-cd-audio "acoustically equivalent" to wav-cd-audio ?
...ent at home (I have done so)
1. recite to WAV. save as A.wav
2. encode A.mp3 from A.wav
3. create B.wav from A.mp3.
4. ask someone to burn A.wav and B.wav to an audio CD (double blind -
neither you, nor they, shoudl know which is which).
5. listen to the CD in a standard player. You will hear zero differrence in
sound quality.
I am NOT saying, not to make WAV available. But I am pointing out that the
vast majority of repackagers only want to create CDs. And that they will not
be able to improve upon the sound quality , though it is quite possible they
may degrade it, during their own post-processi...

Portech MV-378 with Asterisk
...asterisk?
I did the configuration as per the manual but it does not work.
My server sees the portech gateway, but when the gateway is trying to
register to my server it fails. It says peer is not suppose to register.
The gateway and the asterisk box are on two different location (two network,
2 differrent IP address).
I would appreciate any kind of tutorial or advice on how to make it work.
Thanks

high availability ideas
Hi,
I'm looking for some recommendations. I need to have some sort of high
availability for a set of php & mysql web sites, they must be hosted on 2
servers, in separate data centres and obviously on differrent IPs.
I can't use a load balancer because that will introduce a single point of
failure making the "distributed setup" useless. I was thinking some sort of
drbd/glusterfs/mysql-master-master replication and figure out how to make
the dns system responsible with the fail over.

How to set netbios node type to Samba server

And this machine is m-node.
Another server ,run on Linux, and this machine
register only one NetBIOS name to IP adderss mapping to wins server.
And this machine is h-node.
I have a question.
1) Why both server have differrent node type?
2) Why linux server only one mapping data to wins server?
3) Where does samba server setting netbios node type?

Great difference for piecewise linear function between R and SAS
Dear Rusers,
I am now using R and SAS to fit the piecewise linear functions, and what
surprised me is that they have a great differrent result. See below.

are -0.4357 and -0.3202
m.glm<-glm(mark~x+poly(elevation,2)+bs(distance,degree=1,knots=c(16.13,24))

Errors transferring forestdns and domaindns FSMO roles
Hai, can you post the exact error again, or is is really exact like the January link.
drs_utils.py on debian should be these.
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/drs_utils.py
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/drs_utils.pyc
And now i see whats the differrence here.

the class "boot" from package boot, or another one? What I would need is

Thank you!

Tektronix 640 Plus Color Printer
I am running samba 2.0.6 under Linux and currently have around 2 dozen
network printers that generally work fine served on samba. They are
four differrent flavors of HP Lasers and I have the drivers on the
server, everything's great-UNTIL......
We get a Tektronix color printer (Phaser 640 Plus). It's networking
fine, actually prints fine, except only in Black and there is some
bar-code-ish noise in the blank lines. The printer itsself a...

Samba and Windows 2003 interdomain trust
Hi all,
I must establish a domain trust between a Samba and Windows 2003 domain.
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b with LDAP backend (no Winbind, no kerberos).
The domains are in differrent networks and between are some firewalls
(ports and services are already configured).
The first task for me is to configure Samba to trust the AD domain.
What are the steps?
Must both servers use the same Wins server, and is it possible for Samba
to be a Wins server by itself and also using...

Streaming Theora
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but would it be possible (probably alot
of work if possible) to have a bandwith sharing video stream using something
similar to bittorrent? Basically, bittorrent but playing the video as it's
downloading. Is this possible/feasible or is it just wishful thinking?

[LLVMdev] [patch] Enhance of asm macros
Hello Vladimir,
While this is great for platforms that use the current gas style assembler macros your patch also changes the existing support for darwin that does not use these style of assembler macros. Could you please update your patch that leaves the assembler macros unchanged for darwin. Then we can review the updated patch.
Thanks,
Kev
