Samba3 PDC and Windows 8 RTM
Hi there,
I have just purchased a new PC that came with Windows 8 Pro (Shudder...).
I have been trying to add this machine to my Samba3 based domain.
I'm getting the following error when doing so:
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location
(SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller
(AD DC) for domain "<blah>":

...egistry. Hopefully, pasting over the new name with a .reg script
will obviate the need to re-join the domain. Try it out, when there is no
one to disturb. Back up "/etc/samba" and "/var/lock/samba" with smb
and nmb stopped so that you can back out of it if necessary.

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something

Getting a list of users mapped to IP addresses they are logged in from
Hi There,
We have a samba setup as a domain controller using a LDAP backend. We also
have a BDC setup on a cross-atlantic subnet with LDAP replication and so
forth.
We also have a company Wiki which at the moment uses the same LDAP database
to authenticate users.
I am looking for a way to remove the need to manually login to the Wiki.
After all, the person has already logged into their

Samba + LDAP + displayName attribute
Hi All,
I have a rather strange, if not critical, issue with samba as a NT4
domain controller.
We have samba [version 3.0.24] set up as a PDC using LDAP as a
backend. Each account was created using the IDEALX scripts, has a
displayName set to a users full name, say Joe Bloggs. The actual UID
of the account is different, say bloggsjoe.
When signing into Window XP, everything works fine.

ACLs on domain members
Hi,
I have a Samba PDC (Version 3.6.6) backed by LDAP and a number of Linux
Samba domain memebers (security = domain).
On the PDC I have ACLs configured and all this is working as expected.
On the domain members however, I have ACLs also enabled and while they
work, they only seem to work if I make ACL changes using the setfacl
commands on the box directly.
What I am looking for is the ability
