W2k/w98 don't see printers on samba-3.0.0beta2/3 in "Add Printer" dialogue
Hello,
I've tried both samba-3.0.0beta2 and beta3 but
both give me the same problem.
When on a windows dekstop and trying to add
a printer with samba as the printserver , the
printers exported by the samba server are not
seen by the windows "add printer dialogue" e.g.:
relevant part of smb.conf:
-----------------------------------
load printers = yes
printing = cups
printcap name = /etc/printcap
print command = lpr -r -P%p %s
[hp_laserjet]
path = /tmp

position of windows-dialogue
Hello all,
to interrupt a BATCH program I inserted, as adviced in this list, a windows
dialogue box (winDialog("ok")). The graphic display opens on the right part
of the screen, which is OK. The Windows dialoge opens in the center of the
screen and hides a part of the graphics window. Is it possible to determine
the coordinates where the Windows dialogue box opens? I'd like t...

Setup.exe Hides Dialogues
...ge base at the Wine site without finding
a solution.
I just switched from Mandrake to Lindows, which seems to have a capable
version of Wine running. However, with two Winapps I've tried to
install, the initial setup window (fullscreen, borderless, no controls)
completely hides the install dialogues from view. Alt-Tab will not bring
them forward, although it does show that they are there.
Is there a fix, other than trying to install blind?

Avoid the Gecko dialogue
Can I use a wine command line argument (or anything other) to skip the `installing Gecko' dialogue?
I find it only annoying as I install Gecko via winetricks when needed and I usually have a wine prefix for each windows program I use.

Slow Print Dialogue Box
I have a Question I am running Samba 3.10 on Debian with OpenLdap
Backend as a Print Server to XP Client Machines without SP2. When
printing from Microsoft Word it takes 10 -15 sec. for the Dialogue box
to come up. However, in troubleshooting this problem i found that if
i edit the smb.conf and add my user account to the admin user under
the [Global] Section. The problem goes away. Does anyone know why
this happens only when i am not an admin on in the smb.conf? Does
samba do thing diffre...

Timeouts with outlook express
Hi
I am using Dovecot 0.99.12.1 (just upgraded) on a site with about 1500
mailboxes. One thing I have noticed is when the client outlook express
is receiving a large mail via pop3 it gets a time out. There is traffic.
If you click on the "wait" button in the dialogue the mail continues to
download.
This seem to relate to the "Server Timeouts" setting under mail account
Properties/advance. If this setting is set higher the dialogue come only
after this time has passed.
If the mail take a long time to download if say is very big the user may
have to...

Re: Printing plain text directly without dialogues
Have you tried cups? (cups.rubyforge.org).
UNIX only, unfortunately, but it''s a bit easier to get up & running with
it.

Problem with disabled user name and password fields in login dialogue on Windows XP SP2
Hello,
We are having some problems with logging on to several Windows XP Pro SP2
clients at several different sites running Samba 3.0.10 as domain server.
The situation is that the "User name" and "Password" fields in the "Log On
to Windows" window are greyed out on the Windows XP clients. The third
field, "Log on to", where you can choose between the

Opening files issue.
Hi all.
I've looked, and I do recall a posting from earlier addressing this, but I
can't get the right combo of key-words to google up the solution. If I open
a file (say a .doc) from windows explorer, the program launches and that
file loads quickly. If I use the open dialogue from the application, the
file loads slowly. Looking in performnce monitor I see that if I load the
file from explorer, there is a quick exchange of received bytes from the
samba server, and nearly none sent. If I open from the open dialogue, I see
an almost equal amount of sent and received byte...

CentOS5 installation crashes
...I:
Choose custom partition.
delete all existing partitions.
add one LVM vg partition taking up entire disk. I do not change any
default options.
I then click the LVM button to add my logical volumes as follows:
5GB /

5GB /tmp
4GB /var
1GB swap
all are ext3 partitions.
I exit the LVM dialogue and click Next to continue with the

of unintelligible errors that I am completely unfamiliar with. I click
OK on the error dialogue and the installation freezes and I can only
power off with the button. I will probably look...

Bug in setting GUI to SDI mode?
....
OK, in the latest release of R for windows, I want to change the gui to
SDI mode.
Edit -> GUI preferences
Choose SDI

I get the message about properties not being able to be changed on a
running console, and that I need to save.
So I click Save, and am met with a "Save As" dialogue box with the
default file called Rconsole, the file type as "All files". I have no
idea where I actually have to save this.
I saved it in C:\Program File\R\2.2.1 anyway, restarted the console, and
SDI mode was not set.
I realiuse I can use the --sdi option on the command line, but I wa...

pwdLastSet, password required to change (samba vs MSAD)
...t; is set in ADUC.
However, in our environment (samba-4.4.4) keycloak simply refuses the
logons when tht checkbox is set. ("bad username or password")
RedHat (who's behind keycloak) has tested and verified that with their
AD environment, the user IS presented with a password change dialogue.
So, it seems that samba behaves different than a true windows AD server.
Running keycloak in debugmode, I can see that:

Printer dialogue box slow to pop up
...nitializing their logon batch script, or changing their passwords. We
were able to add functioning printer queues using samba and cups. The
computers are able to download the printer drivers and print successfully.
The issue right now is that there is a good minute delay when opening the
printer dialogue box and when the dialogue box pops up on the computer
(one of the samba printers is set up as the default printer on each
computer). This problem is consistent for all versions of Windows. We
are having trouble pinpointing what could be the cause of this. Does
anyone have any idea what to look f...

strange crashes caused by 'cairoDevice' and 'tcltk' dialogues
Dear developers
I get some strange crashes when 'cairoDevice' and 'tcltk' are both
loaded in the same R vanilla session.
When executing the following in that order

require(cairoDevice)

I get a crash with the following message (see R-relimp-cairoDevice.txt):
The program 'R' received an X Window System error.

gui wrapper for ssh -X
Hi,
I've been attempting to write a gui wrapper to launch
ssh -X user at machine application
I'm trying to launch ssh and connect to it with pipes so that my front
end can enter the password if required (either from a cache or by
popping up a dialogue box).
I've been having problems with pipes though reading from ssh's stdout,
for when it asks for the password. Before I go further down this path,
does ssh uses pipes in the standard way, or is this method impossible.
Does anyone have a suggestion of another way to go about this, curre...
