Macbook DHCP issue.
...now. When I try and DCHP an address now all I get is the 169.254.219.* address that is OSX's confusing way of telling you that you didn't get a real address. I've poked around at everything I can think of and can't figure it out. Running linux box to linux box works just fine and DHCPs an address just fine. I upgraded to the latest version of TINC. I've tried swaping my Mac tinc config to switch, hub, and none with no change. I've tried connecting and being connected to the main linux box. I've tried going over the TCP dump with no luck. Has anyone seen this be...

Tinc route disappearing after some time
Hello, I have the route created by tinc in router mode disappearing after some time with a rather simple configuration. I want to join two (or more) networks accross the internet, primarily to access network shares. Those networks have their own DHCPs and are autonomous, i.e. not dependent on the VPN connection. I think Tinc in router mode is best suited for my case and this example <https://www.tinc-vpn.org/documentation/Example-configuration.html#Example-configuration> perfectly describes my situation. Please let me know if you can think...

Having Samba integrate/replace existing mixed Unix/Windows network
...this, I want to synchronize between the two so that it appears as one. We eventually going to try to authenticate against the campus-wide LDAP service, and the fewer points of authentication I have within my department, the easier that will be. 4. Consolidate DNS and DHCP. Because we have two DHCPs, and because our firewall is set to pass all traffic between the two subnets, I actually have two network cables running to my laptop - I have to switch them when I switch OSes! I am not 100% sure of the reason, the past admin simply said that's how it is, but I believe it's so I hit t...

machine name lookups
We have been looking for a way to notify our users when they are running low on disk quota, without sending them mail. WinPopup actually seemed like the best way, so my partner began looking at feeding quota output into smbclient -M when quota was getting tight. The only problem is that smbclient -M frequently fails to find the client's host name. The -I parameter will often fix it, but I am

Securring DHCP, with DDNS
Hello All, I have 2 samba4 AD server with dhpd and dynamic DNS. I have well understand that for now it's not possible to have 2 DHCP server running in the same time. So I would have at a time only one dhcp server running. If the first server got a problem I want to manually start the isc-dhcp service in the second to rescue the system. But It's not working as I expected... If I switch

Securring DHCP, with DDNS
You may have 2 dhcps running, but you have to make sure the lease ranges are different. The first dns server stanza should refer to the server which gets the lease update. For the dns servers you would need to define each other as forwarder, probably by ip range, to be able to resolve the other (half of the) names. --...

...some of you experts but I was able to meet the goal..... GOAL: Install RH7.1, enable SAMBA so I could do file sharing on my home network. Home network is 3 PCs running W98, W2000, Linux (let's call them LINUX, PC1, PC2, all on workgroup WG). A firewall device is connected to the Internet and DHCPs all the home machines in the 192.168 range. INSTALL: Installed RH 7.1 fresh, a custom installation picking and choosing components through the GUI setup. Idea here was to make minimal changes to the base install and try to make it work. Changed these files as follows (replace the xxx with the...
