We have a few needs for this model, here''s a (simplified) example of one: class dhcp::server { package { dhcp3-server: ensure => installed } service { dhcp3-server: ensure => running, hasstatus => true, require => [ Package["dhcp3-server"], Exec["check-dhcpd-conf"] ], } exec { "check-dhcpd-conf": command => "/usr/sbin/dh...

PXE boot says server address is 0.0.0.0
Hello, I have set up 2 PXE servers, on Linux Debian Sarge and Etch, on which I use syslinux + ISC dhcp3 + tftp-hpa for booting. The older one, on Sarge, has been working fine for more than a year, great :-) The new one, on Etch, with the exact same config files, does not : the DHCP part seems to work, but at the end pxelinux seems to lose the server's IP address; this what I see on the conso...

known relationship between dynamic dns update (with bind9 and dhcp3) and "os level" and/or "prefered master"?
Hello, I'm using samba 2.2.8a with bind 9 and dhcpd 3 everything on one machine. I setup dynamic dns updates for the Windows NT, 2000 and XP client so their hostnames will get an reverse and forward dns entry (dhcp always add the reverse entry; w2k and xp add the forward entry themself and for nt the dhcp is doing the forward entry because nt cannot do dns updates). Then I added samba on the

pxelinux: Using just pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi friends... I am using pxelinux but it is so slow when I don't write MAC addresses in /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf so How do I can use pxelinux.cfg/default directly and not have to wait? A lot of thanks. {pepo} -- Linux User Registered #232544 Jabber : pepo at jabberes.org ICQ : 337889406 GnuPG-key : www.keyserver.net ---------------- -----------...

TFTP support multiple NICs?
The scenario: Installed a Ubuntu 5.10 Linux server with dhcp3-server, apache2 and tftpd-hpa to serve as a mass Linux deployment station. It can serve up to 200 PCs at one time installing Linux using just one NIC card in the server. Recently, we wanted to expand our bandwidth to push out these PCs faster. The problem: If there is more than one NIC in the c...

tftp problems with VIA EPIA-M board
...trying to boot linux on a VIA EPIA-M board (a Nehemiah-based M10000), and I'm having some trouble with it. I'm watching the network transactions with ethereal, and I'm seeing a failure at what appears to be the tftp stage. The M10000 picks up its IP address from the dhcp server (ISC DHCP3), and reports it correctly on the screen. Then the tftp session starts, and I get the following packets in ethereal: Client udp/2070 to Server udp/69: Read request /tftpboot/pxelinux.0 Server udp/32872 to Client udp/2070: Option acknowledgement, tsize=10832 Client udp/2070 to Server udp/32872: Err...

Windows 7 domain issues
I am running Windows 7 Professionaly 64-bit with domain membership to a Samba domain. I have noticed some weird behaviour. 1) For some reason, dhcp3-server does not add the forward dns entry into bind9. This works perfectly with Windows 7 if it is not a domain member, or other operating systems (XP, OS/X and Linux). I know this isn't specifically a Samba issue, but I thought I should mention it. 2) Strange entries in log files. Authenticat...

Samba domain clients take too long to log in
...ing username and password from a Windows XP client computer, it starts reading the profile from the samba server; it says: loading settings, then it says: applying settings, then it becomes stalled, and after about 2 minutes the computer starts to load the desktop. I have these packages installed: dhcp3-server, bind9, openldap (and required packages as libnss-ldap, libpam-ldap, etc) and samba server. Do I need something else (a package or configuration) in order to avoid this? Why do clients last too much before the Windows desktop is ready to use? I would really appreciate your help because I ha...

Windows XP SP2 slow printing solution
...neous, and there was no noticeable delay in printing from applications such as acrobat. There is a breif blurb about this setting here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q204279/#kb1 According to this reference, this setting can also be specified over DHCP. Unfortunately, on our network we use ISC dhcp3 as our DHCP server, and I could not find any options in the dhcpd.conf file that references this specefic vendor-specific DHCP extension, so a manual configuration of each client is needed. I hope this is of help to anybody with XP SP2 printing problems. Cheers, Gary.

...A bridge (br0) is statically set up at boot through the interfaces script. Its bridge port is eth0. br0 is assigned 10.10.145.254 in the 10.10.145.0/24network. eth1 is 192.168.1.254, gateway is router2 192.168.1.1. Router2 is configured to forward both 7142 tcp and udp traffic to 192.168.1.254. dhcp3-server is configured to listen on the br0 interface. The idea is to allow incoming mobile user join the network and be part of the internal network able to receive multicast on the 10.10.145.0/24network. tinc setup on the VPN server is as follows (/etc/tinc/vpn). /etc/tinc/vpn/tinc.conf mode = s...

EC2 with puppet bootstrap notes and scripts
...hosts. To get a puppet client to bootstrap correctly all three of these things need to be changed. The searchdomain in /etc/resolv.conf is reset on each boot by the dhcp client. To ''fix'' this you can add ''supersede domain-name "example.com";'' to /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf. and add ''server.ip.addr.ess puppetmaster.example.com'' to /etc/hosts. To get the hostname changed without generating custom AMIs for each server I used a small script called by rc.local to set the hostname, then startup the puppet client. My complete setup is a litt...
