Authentication problems using libsmbclient to traverse DFS links
...FS links to actual server/share's.
I know that you can get this information by logging on to the DFS root
server, but I'm trying to use the libsmbclient API to
get this information.
I have created a fairly simple DFS structure on 2003 servers with
everything on the same domain.
//MyDomain/DFSRoot
/Link1 -> //Fileserv-1/FileShare1
/Link2 -> //Fileserv-2/FileShare2
On the command line I can traverse the DFS tree without any problems,
so using smbclient I can perform the following steps:
# smbclient //10.4.1.107/DFSRoot -A
./credfile
Domain=[ENG-DEV] OS=[Windows Server 2003 379...

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi:
I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's
original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a
subdomain.
All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like
\\server.domain.com\dfsroot.
If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works.
I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links
But, now the network is being re-architected...
The clients will be in multiple IP subnets, and the server needs to be
moved to a subdomain of "domain.com".
I con...

looking for good DFS implementation advice
I have read through some of the info on using dfs roots and I am
needing some advice. Since a unc is still \\servername\ based it
occurs to me that the only way to do this properly is to create a
smb.conf file that publishes a netbios name like \\dfsroot -- Then, to
create a failover system, I would take that config file and copy it
around to multiple samba server. Then, have some kind of watch or
heartbeat like monitor (that would only monitor where the name and
services called \\dfsroot was still alive and responding) that would
wait untill \\dfs...

MSDFS working with IP address but not with name
Hi,
- Server : Ubuntu server 11.04
- Samba 3.5.8
- (Likewise 6.0.0-2 if that can make sense... ? - Anyway : working
fine; A.D. integration OK)
- Client : windows XP SP3
When trying to use this brand new server as a DFS root, I'm facing an
issue I can't solve:
- Pointing to \\servername\dfsroot\linktootherserver I'm getting the
error message "share refers to a location that is unavailable"
- Pointing to \\192.168.xx.yy\dfsroot\linktootherserver , this is
working
I was pretty proud of my clean DNS architecture, and I can confirm the
windows client, the dfsroot server and the...

I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2). I set up the DFS share on SMB1 per these instructions and want to share the Public share from SMB2 through DFS on SMB1.

Domain DFS on new share

The DCs already have the following (confirmed using testparm) :
