Migration from samba_dsdb to tdbsam.
...build and installation, I was informed that passdb backend = samba_dsdb was no longer supported, so I commented out the line, to find which default I should use. testparm advises it should be: passdb backend = tdbsam Is there a mechanism/tool to convert the backend samba_dsdb to tdbsam? Regards, Dewayne.

Windows 7 + Samba 3.5.6 = abject misery...
Can anyone help with this? I set it all up a few months ago, the samba side being standard upgrades via debian - configured as a PDC, and the windows 7 clients being clean installs, with the standard lanmanworkstation regedits done. They've been working fine since then, but have now started failing, instead raising the error message 'The trust relationship between this work station and

Samba4 AD SysVol Replication (HowTo + Script)
Hello, as it is often a question here on the lists and by many others on the internet, I wrote a new HowTo for setting up a SysVol replication "workaround", until Samba supports this feature by itself: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication For the replication process, I wrote a Bash script, put it on my webspace and linked it in the HowTo, which should describe

Questions for minimal AD DC, DNS setup and Posix use
...onf options described in samba4 source folder source4/TODO be updated to reflect what appears in "testparm -vss"? It's a little confusing as to which takes precedence? With some instruction, I'd be happy to update/maintain some wiki information for others' benefit. Regards, Dewayne.

How to configure samba to use LDAP/Kerberos authentication without using winbind?
We have a environment that the we cannot(don't want to) use winbind to join samba server to the win2003 AD(with LDAP RFC2307bis Schema and uid/gid setup for users). We managed to get the linux (CentOS) to accept windows domain user ssh to it(with nss/nslcd/kerberos settings). But couldn't make samba server to use the same way to serve windows domain users. sendmail getting domain\user as email userId
Dewayne, Thanks a lot for this patch. I'll hang on to it any probably do some experimenting on the side. The problem with this approach is that our AD/DC/Mail-server is in an office and I have to be concerned about future sysadmins as well as future sendmail updates. I am very reluctant to patch OS so...

samba4 anonymous ldap search
I'm using Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-e4218e4 samba4 server. It allows nicely anonymous ldap searches, latest versions does not allow that. I have followed Microsofts kb326690 and kb320528 guides, but it seems not helpful. Is the anonymous ldap possible anymore? regards Hannu

Question about implementing samba4 cleartext passwords
Hello I want to create a domain using samba4 and from there to authenticate users against ad. The challange for me is that i have never worked out with domain or with ldap , and that i need to use AD users/passwords to authenticate not only the domain clients , but the mail users and perhaps the ftp, or web users , that are on another linux distro's. It is possible to implement a AD with

Suggest changing dirhash defaults for FreeBSD 9.2.
I have been experimenting with dirhash settings, and have scoured the internet for other peoples' experience with it. (I found the performance improvement in compiling has forestalled the need to add an SSD drive. ;-) I believe that increasing the following values by 10 would benefit most FreeBSD users without disadvantage. vfs.ufs.dirhash_maxmem: 2097152 to 20971520

Samba4 for AD using existing LDAP, Kerberos, and Bind Setup.
We run Apple's OD to support our Linux, Mac, and Windows clients and servers. We are under pressure to use AD because more and more software coming out for Windows requires it. We don't want to use AD, so Samba4 looks good. However, we don't want to pull apart our directory to implement samba4. Is there a way to get Samba 4 running so that it is able to use the existing LDAP and

nullfs changes MFC
Hi, I am going to merge latest batch of the nullfs improvements into stable/9. This will bring up significant performance enchancements due to use of the shared locks for lookups if the lower layer supports it, much better caching on the nullfs layer, and proper handling of the text segments on the nullfs. Also, it should improve the error recovery and some corner cases with locking.

sendmail getting domain\user as email userId [formerly: How to GSSAPI/Kerberos authenticate with Dovecot]
Hi Mark, I've had the same trouble with the DOMAIN\user on my DCs, and as Rowland has already pointed out, the "winbind use default domain = yes" configure option is not honored on a DC. My guess is that is because a Samba DC can only be a DC for one domain, so that is why it isn't honored. If I do "getent passwd username" on my DCs, they all return
