samba acl it
I apologize for all emails sent to resolve the acl problem. The
instructions I followed to make an exact domain member erase; the
problem is that the samba release used by debian 9 was buggy; I switched
to devuan (which I start to love) and I went through the whole
procedure: now everything is ok

What distro you choose is up you and you alone. I personally use
Devuan because I find it easy to maintain, but mainly because it
doesn't use systemd. I wouldn't force my distro choice on anybody,
advise its use, yes, force, no.
OK, I will set up latest Centos in a VM and compile & configure
Samba and lets see if I can make it work ;-)

Samba as AD member & without winbind...
Hi all, without winbind co
actually we have running samba 4.5.16 under Devuan 2.0 (Ascii) as AD
member without winbind configured. UID and GID informations coming from
NSS (nslcd -> LDAP). LDAP and AD are in sync.
After upgrade to Devuan 3.0 (Beowulf) with samba 4.9.5 this
constellation does not work anymore. Samba insists on configuring winbind.
Can I configure winb...

Invalid PTR record in reverse lookup zone
Hello,
I have configured an samba AD DC for use with
some windows and linux machines. The linux machines use
samba for user auth and also as kerberos kdc for
nfs mounts. This works fine so far but after a while
the user can not access the nfs shares anymore.
I tried to analyze the problem and finally found, that
the obtaining a ticket for nfs service failes in this
case because of a wrong

samba_dnsupdate options: --use-samba-tool vs. --use-nsupdate, and dhcpd dynamic updates
PRIOR THREAD: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2019-January/220292.html
In the referenced prior thread, I had an issue of samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names causing a dns_tkey_gssnegotiate: TKEY is unacceptable error.
Ultimately, the solution kindly provided by Rowland was to insert dns update command = /usr/local/samba/sbin/samba_dnsupdate --use-samba-tool into the [global] section of

switch from 32bit to 64bit
Hi,
I plan to copy /usr/local/samba from 32bit Ubuntu 14.04 to 64bit Devuan
1.0, and then just recompile Samba. Should this work, or are there any
differences in database or other internal files between 32bit and 64bit
versions of Samba?
If I also want to switch from NT4-PDC to AD-DC, should I first switch to
64bit, or is the order of these two changes irrelevant?

at Dyne.org we develop and use http://Devuan.org on our servers
Devuan is very lightweight compared to all other distributions because
it doesn't adopts the systemd stack. You can also run it without
dbus. Still, in Devuan there are all packages found in Debian, so
installing and running Icecast2 is very straightforward. Also
