Your laws may have been written by the people Ayn Rand wrote about: "the government increasingly asserts control over all industry, while society's most productive...

modeling binary response variables
R-devotees, I have a question about modeling in the case where the response variable is binary. I have a case where I have a response variable that is the probability of success, and four descriptor variables, The response has a sigmoid response with one of the variables. I would like to test for the effect...

comment on dovecot documentation on PAM
Dear Dovecote devotees, I have been going through dovecot configuration for the first time. I am not an experienced systems administrator so I had to do a left turn to read up about PAM while doing all the configuration for my new webmail service. I found that the writing in the dovecot documentation about PAM to be...

Problem achieving manual synchronisation of idmap.ldb and the associated User and Group ID mappings between two Samba 4 AD DCs

Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro
Did I sound like our President? :) <spin> I didn''t explain myself well. I am not thinking of buying the identically equipped PC laptop either at the same price. If I had a $2500-$3000 budget (laptop, Applecare + case etc) I might consider the Mac, but then in the PC laptop universe there are more options of going with the slower processors (T2300 or T2400) for about $1,000 less

...to write the docs. Another person should then separately *verify* the instructions that are given to avoid simple mistakes. To be absolutely clear - I am trying to be constructive here and genunely offer suggestions for improvement. The last thing I want to do is insult you and the other Samba devotees and your heroic efforts here on this list Rowland. At the same time quite a few of the the questions that are asked relate to pretty basic stuff that wouldn't arise were the official docs clearer IMHO. I know you are all volunteers, time is precious, but I think a little bit more up front...

Partial Keyboard Functionality In Old PC Game (Heavy Gear 2)
...etup is no problem. However, once the actual game launches only a small subset of the keyboard is responsive (arrow keys, ESC, TAB, and a few others). If anyone could help me troubleshoot this problem it would be much appreciated. It is an old retired game, but there is a nostalgia-steeped crowd of devotees who are currently unable to play it on their newer Windows machines, and as is often the case, I'm hoping Linux can be made the solution. Thanks!

RSpec and resource_controller plugin
...n this plugin is installed. Someone asked this question from the other direction on the resource_controller google group in November, but got no reply. I know I should just write it myself, but you cant blame a guy for asking, and I''d love to hear comments on this plugin from other RSpec devotees. -- Rick DeNatale My blog on Ruby http://talklikeaduck.denhaven2.com/

Remember James McGovern?
Remember James McGovern and his articles about Rails and enterprise? Well... Check this one out where he "puts his money where his mouth is" http://duckdown.blogspot.com/2006/04/ruby-community-proved-mcgovern-wrong.html -- -------------- Jon Gretar Borgthorsson http://www.jongretar.net/

[Thank you!] IMHO only RHEL is better than CentOS...
...based on my experience, for use in all non-certified enterprise operations (large and small) on general-purpose computers. RHEL is, of course, the better alternative when you require the upstream vendor's certified platform, certified and tested integrated solutions, industry-leading support, or customized solutions. Their offerings are a bargain when you consider the benefits they provide

Testing modules
There''s definitely enough complexity in some of the modules out there to warrant solid test coverage, especially if people start extending a module to support more distributions and OSes, while trying to keep the existing support working. That''s even before you start thinking about functions, facts, and native types. They''re *really* in need of solid testing, being all
