Standard error of regression coefficient
Hi all,
This should be a very simple question for you, whereas it is proving devilish for me.
How do I output the STANDARD ERROR of the regression coefficient (i.e., the standard error of b) from a simple linear regression?
Consider this data, taken directly from ?lm:
ctl <- c(4.17,5.58,5.18,6.11,4.50,4.61,5.17,4.53,5.33,5.14)
trt <- c(4.81,4.17,4.41,3.59,5.87,3.83,6.03,4.8...

arrow on contour line
Hello,
I am drawing contour lines for a function of 2 variables at one level of
the value of the function and want to include a small arrow in any
direction of increase of the function. Is there some way to do that?
Below is an example that creates the contour lines. How do I add one small
arrow on each line in the direction of increase of the function (at some
central point of the contour

Understanding Wine's build processes/development cycle
Hey everyone!
I'm a fairly new user of Ubuntu, and I stumbled across Wine a few months back. I would love to use Ubuntu more regularly, but there are a few programs that I use in Windows that I simply couldn't live without if I were to make the switch. However, I'm fairly confident these programs would not work within a Wine environment just yet. That story in mind, I just had some

Extracting P-values from the lrm function in the rms library
Hello again R users,
I have a devilishly hard problem, which should be very simple. I hope someone out there will have the answer to this on the tip of their tongue.
Please consider the following toy example:

shuffling of data
I have a file that reads like this:
Species,Year,Julian_day
Alnus_glutinosa, 1873, 123
Sorbus_aucuparia, 1873, 122
....(more species...)
Alnus_glutinosa, 1874, 134
Sorbus_aucuparia, 1874, 143
....(more species and years)
Is there a way to plot this as julian day over years so that each species
get a different color?
Also is it possible to convert this data into the format:
Alnus_glutinosa,

Dialing an outside number -- QUESTION --
Hello--
I'd like to do a little processing on external phone numbers from within
the asterisk pbx. Fairly simple stuff, but... devilishly hard to make it
work so far!
1. I'd like to dial 9 to get an outside line.
2. If the number dialed after the 9 is 754XXXX, I'd like it to go thru
unmodified. It's the only local number available here.
3. I'd like all 1 XXX XXX XXXX numbers to go thru after the 9,
unmolested.

Configuring Shared Mailbox Dictionaries
Hello, list!
I am in the midst of configuring a new Dovecot IMAP server, and I'm
preparing to setup shard mailboxes as part of the ocnfiguration. In
order to get these setup the way I want, I've figured out that I'm going
to have to setup an acl_shared_dict. This is where things start to get
confusing for me, as I have had difficulty finding thorough explanations
of dictionary

Problems with adding Windows printer drivers to a Samba box
Hi all!
Here is an interesting problem:
I have installed Mandrake 9.0 on two server boxes, both of which are
running very happily and have been for a year now (and a year or two
before that on earlier versions of Mandrake). I was able to successfully
add printer drivers to one of these boxes (as it was the only one
running Samba at the time, called MAIN) without any problems.
Yesterday, I

I could not find anything out about it (googling) and it''s not the

PATCH: Forcible delaying of UFS (soft)updates
Here's a patch against 4.8-RELEASE kernel that allows disk writes on
softupdates-enabled filesystems to be delayed for (theoretically)
arbitrarily long periods of time. The motivation for such updating
policy is surprisingly not purely suicidal - it can allow disks on
laptops to spin down immediately after I/O operations and stay idle for
longer periods of time, thus saving considerable amount
