Problems printing to remote windows shared printer with 3.0.20
...e just upgraded from 3.0.13 to 3.0.20 on our Solaris domain controller.
Machine is also print server running CUPS-1.1.23.
We have a RICOH network printer that we print to via Samba (the printer seems to have
a builtin Windows PC).
smbspool is linked to /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb and the appropriate DeviceURI is in
/etc/cups/printers.conf.
This works fine with 3.0.13, but with 3.0.20 I get this error in /var/log/cups/error_log
when printing from either the Solaris machine or XP (after adding the Samba printer).
I [29/Aug/2005:17:08:21 +0500] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 24244) fo...

Samba and Cups
Hi
We're using samba as a PDC with LDAP-backend on a freebsd based system.
Now I got two questions about Samba and Cups.
1. Group Print Operators
There is a pre defined group called "Print Operators", GID 550.
But if a user is part of this group, he isn't able to start/stop jobs or
printers. Is there something I need to configure?
Users in the "Domain Admin" group are

It looks as if you downloaded the two RPMs from Brother then attempted
to follow their complicated instructions for installing them. Much
simpler is to do this:

Apparently both rpms are installed,
but even after restarting cups,
the printer just receives data and goes back to sleep.
I have no /etc/printcap.local or /etc/printcap .
/etc/cups/printers.conf does not contain the string lp .
It does have

CUPS via SMB with per-user credentials?
...multi-user Linux box in a mostly Windows NT/2000 shop. The office
printer is available only via SMB (hosted by a Win2000 box) and access is
restricted to valid users in the local NT domain. There is no "global" or
"print" user/password.
Everything mostly works. I have a 'DeviceURI
smb://MYUSERNAME:MYPASSWORD@domain/printer' in /etc/cups/printers.conf.
This allows all of the users on this Linux box to be able to print.
However, this isn't ideal for several reasons:
1. It's horribly unsecure as people with 'root' access on the Linux box

NetBIOS called name not sent using smbclient 4.0.9 and CUPS 1.6.3
...(packet 10). This is using CUPS 1.6.2 and
smbclient 3.6.9 on an Ubuntu 13.04 installation.
The other session, capture-printsmb-1-filtered.pcap, has an empty field
(repeating bytes 0xCA) at that location. This is using CUPS 1.6.3 and
smbclient 4.0.9 on an (up-to-date) Arch linux installation.
The DeviceURI used for this printer is
smb://username:password at science/printsmb.science.ru.nl/lazarus
The server's administrators and I have established (and it can be seen
in the packet captures) that the machine is being reached, and that the
only difference really is with the NetBIOS session request....
