Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Dear Paul, Maybe some of the packages were installed by a user with admin rights and you are installing them with a user how has no admin rights. Thus you have no rights to remove the files created by the admin user. We made clear to our IT departement that they only may install R and not additional packages. We also tell them to set the environment variable R_LIBS_USER to C:/R/library and make

Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Hi Paul, I recently ran into file path conflicts and found the following useful (looks like you already know the answer to 1.): 1. Use .libPaths() to find where packages are being stored. 2. To change this path: Control Panel > search ?View advanced system settings? > Environment Variables *button *> a. *Edit* current R_LIBS_USER to new file path b. *New*

...a closer look showed a font problem. when you look at the atatched jpg's you can see, that the numbers do not fit the entry field. compare linux.jpg and windows.jpg. i'm not shure if this is a font problem or some thing else. sadly this is a killerapplication for the migration of about 400 destops to linux. perhaps some one can give me a hint. Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Dear Leslie and Thierry, Thank you so much for your kind and extremely valuable replies. Only one doubt remains, which path do you think is the best option to store downloaded packages? Should I set it up so that all installed packages are in the same folder (path) that I installed R? Or can I simply set it up so that all installed packages are stored in a different path? Again, thank you guys

Dear Paul, We install R in C:/R/R-x.y.z and packages in C:/R/library. This makes the packages location independent from the R version. Best regards, ir. How can I install Wine on a computer without internet access
Hi, Couldn't find the answer searching the forum. I would like install Wine on a system that has Ubuntu 9.10 but NO access to the Internet. I have another system with Ubuntu 8.04 which can access Internet, but the instructions at http://www.winehq.org/download/deb seem to imply that it would install the Wine on my 8.04 machine. Is there any binary I could download that I could put on a

Problem with dovecot on home LAN
At present I get email directly on my laptop in /var/spool/mail/* through uucp. I'd like to get the email in the same directory on my desktop (alfred), and then run a mail server on the destop and collect the email on my laptop (william) (or on other computers on my two little home LANs, ethernet and WiFi). I was advised that dovecot was a good imap server for this purpose (I tried

Hello, I tried to find the answer to my problem already but it is a specialised one I think because nothing was found. I previously have a ISP who was very fast ("extreme speed" service from Cable Modem) but that blocked SMTP port and some other for poor non-commercial users... And it gives dynamic addresses so no DNS at home without tricks... So I went to another

Is there have simplest way to make domain users which in remote desktop group can remote/local logon the workstation ?
What do you want: User should logon remote to windows workstations or do you want a remote login to your server? For remote logon on windows workstations you need a group policy linked to the ou of your workstations. As far as I remember - I don't have a AD at home - you will have to create a new group e.g. GGX-Remotedesktop (abbreviation for Group Global Execute). This group will become

I use Debian Linux squeeze version wht KDE desktop. I installed wine and am missing most of the destop stuff I have seen in the documentation. I am getting the following when I run winecfg or wine control in my command line console. The X server is definitely running since everything in KDE works fine. Desktop behaviour - click to raise
My C5, default Gnome desktop has recently changed behaviour, and I can't figure out how to restore the previous behaviour. Previously, clicking anywhere into a window raised it. Now, for the past few days, only clicking title bar or borders raises them. I logged off, completely wiped all destop settings, i.e. a whole bunch of .gnome* .gconf* .metacity etc. directories, even restarted X,
