Why is there an inconsistency with the option for the destionation port.

like this:

* dropzone is the the folder which keeps source files and folders in

Question on using rsync delete option
...better alternatives.
If I use the --delete option in rsync, all the temporary files at the
destination B will be deleted. In contrast, if I don't use the --delete
option, the destination's temporary files will be intact, but any files
removed from the source, A will not be deleted at the destionation B.
It seems to me that the --delete option is either all or none with the
--exclude option as exception. Maintainning a static list of exclude
files would be very difficult and cumbersome for future maintainance.
I have gone through the FAQ as far back as 2000, but couldn't find any

Q. What do I mean by checksum tree.
A. By that I mean to create a tree having same structure as source dataset has. But all the files
on destionation will contain 128 bit checksum instead of X bytes of actual block.
Perferbly X will be 4096 bytes.
Destination tree will match the source side in structure. Only thing will be different is
size of files and data within the files. Destination contains only the checksum of data.

Blocking IP addresses on a per mountpoint level
Thanks.
Indeed - but is it it possible to block IP addresses on a per mountpoint
level? For example, my user with /mountpointA.ogg does not mind being
hammered by connections from 93.184.216.34 [example.com] but my user with
/mountpointB.ogg wants to block that IP address.
Using iptables I've blocked connections, at a server level, from example.com
for my User B but my User A doesn't

If the mountpoints are at different ports you can specify that in
iptables as well:
iptables -A INPUT -s 93.185.216.34 --dport xxx -j DROP
That will only block connections from that IP address to the given
destionation port.

Finished storage compression patch for rsync
...ng files without wanting to transfer then first from your server).
rsuncompress will decomress a compressed directory.
I have no idea if this works with: links, devices and any other strange stuff.
Also make sure if you use rsync over a network connection that there is gzip
in your $PATH if the destionation side should be saved compressed.
WARNING! I have no idea if the system( "gzip ..." ) call might be a security
issue!
A final advise. This is only for testing ;)

[Bug 1479] --compare-dest suppresses output file if same timestamp present
...t copied from the
compare-dest dir). It does cause all the matching files to get read on both
machines, though, which could be optimized a little if you are willing to do
some scripting.
For instance, if the amount of changed data is not large, you could first copy
the compare-dest dir to the new destionation and then rsync the data from the
remote system without using compare-dest. This saves the remote read, but is
not optimal if lots of files were changed.
Another potentially workable solution is to start with the same compare-dest
copy that you're doing now, and follow it with an rsync of the...

Feature Request: listing files from local dirs
Hi,
rsync does not list files if used locally without a destination but it
does when used remote archives, this is not orthognonal. Scripts have to
handle this special case.
There might be some intention to show the help message to give the user
a hint that he forgot the destionation. Thats fine, but at least with
--list-only rsync should produce a listing (and nothing else, so that
it can be parsed by scripts).
My current workaround is to rsync -n against an empty dir and filter out
any other noise lines from the list (traffic stats/messages about files
which are not handled)...

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 3362] New: Add option to normalize Unicode filenames
...via Samba results in a number of folders that can''t be
accessed. Likewise when running rsync from OS X to a Windows box running
cygwin. I think the best solution to this would be something like
"--destination-charset=UTF-8-NFC", to rename the files from the source charset
to the destionation charset.

The same problem is duplicated on AIX 5.2 with current patch level 02.
It appears that the problem occurs for large files. In the test shown below,
it is 4.6GB.
This happens for rsync 2.5.4 using the IBM build:

Doveadm protocol for parallel user processing
...that there can be multiple RCPT TO:s in a same session, but
this can be handled by treating them similarly than when using LMTP
proxying: Just connect to localhost again and proxy the mail there for
each user separately. This could also be optionally done only when the
process UID differs from the destionation user's UID.
When?

These are too invasive changes to v2.0, so I guess they'll wait until
v2.1. Luckily there won't be any hugely destabilizing changes going into
v2.1, so maybe v2.1.0 release won't be too many months after v2.0.0. :)

[PATCH v2 0/2] UFS1/2 support series
From: Raphael S. Carvalho <raphael.scarv at gmail.com>
Change since v1:
* Fix bug on dentry structure (thank you specification; btw, sarcasm), and
consequently a bug on ufs_readdir.
* Add readlink support (applied tests for symlinks whose destionation path
were stored in blk pointers and the file itself).
* Several improvements.
Wrote the documentation below. I think it would be good to push the doc to
the wiki as soon as the UFS support gets merged.
