backup mdbox best strategy
Hello, i have to backup (tape library) a mailsystem with about 300.000 Mailboxes on 2 backends. Summary of all mailboxes are 2 TByte. The mailstore is mdbox. Is it save to do a simple filesystem backup (full and incremental) with backupsoftware? What is the prefered strategy to do a backup for desaster recovery (mailsystem crash) and restoring single usermailboxes? Regards, Claus

FAQ: How to backup for recovery?
Hi! DomUs can be backed up just fine, and there''s no problem to restore files as long as the DomU boots. Now I wonder how to recover hard (desaster recovery)... Backing up the disk images or partitions (from Dom0) seems to be not an option, because there are changes to them all the time, so incremental backups would always save them, and all saves would be inconsistent. Now the idea is this: Provide a tool that extracts the "structure...

Samba 2.2.8 PDC to samba 3.0.11. Consecuences ?
Hello, i have a question, i have a samba 2.2.8 pdc with a lot of windows clients, ~1000 approximately. What happens with the joint clients if i upgrade to 3.0.11 ? I don't want to return to join 1000 computers! thanks Joan Ramos Ramos <mailto:joanr@uni-post.com> Dpto. Inform?tica Tel.: +34 932 232 552 (Ext. 260) Fax.: +34 932 230 151

Anyone able to NFS boot on xen 4.x ?
Has anyone been able to get domU NFS boots working with any version of Xen 4.x? If so, can you please post your config? Both the dom0 Xen version & kernel, as well as the domU config file. I''ve spent a lot of time running through all the docs, HOWTO''s and published configs and assorted patches for Ubuntu 9x-10x and Xen 4x trying NFS booting with each. I''m not going

Problems with password authentication on Samba as an AD-Member
...fine, until the domaincontroller (Win2000) sufferd a severe hardware-crash. I restored the Installation using an NT-Systemstate Backup, following this nice procedure (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263532/de -- checkout the listbox on the leftside for a translated version). After serveral days of desaster recovery, I managed to promote a freshly installed Windows DC and finally used dcpromo to downgrade the recovered Version. Replmon, dcdiag, netdiag show no errors on the domaincontroller. After that, with the new domaincontroller, everything works fine, except the passwordbox-thing (only with the...

Btrfs going forward, was: Errors on an SSD drive
...D, but neither XFS, nor ext4 offer the required features. So what should I use instead of btrfs or ZFS? I went with btrfs because it?s less troublesome than ZFS and provides features for which I don?t know any good alternative. So far, it?s working fine, but I?d rather switch now than experience desaster.

NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS after removing a DC and WERR_BADFILE when trying to remove broken DC
...of the old 4.1 DCs > (held no FSMO roles). That seemed to run fine (the DC had been offline > for a few weeks at that point and I didn't want to restore it just for > demotion.) This sounds like a very inconvenient way to update. The --remove-other-dead-server should be used only for desaster situations if there is no chance that the DC can demote itself. That's the way how to update Samba: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba#The_Update_Process > So… How the fuck do I recover from this? What's even wrong? 1.) Stop using such words on the lists. 2.) Calm dow...

ldapsmb
Hello List, i try to build up a samba/ldap pdc using samba 3.0.1 and ldapsmb-1.0. It seems that ldapsmb-1.0 did not work with samba 3.0 in non compat mode. Searching for a newer version was frustrating. The only thing i found were dead links to ldapsmb-1.2. If i look inside all this samba mailing lists, it seems that erverybody is using ldapsmb with samba 3.0. Something is going wrong and i

Help please: Migrating Courier imap - Dovecot (Postfix virtual mailbox domains)
I'm trying to migrate from qmail to postfix. The original server is combo of qmail and Courier imap (no pop mailboxes) I have a working Postfix config and had imap working with Courier imap on the new server. I thought I would experiment with Dovecot as it has some good press. I have moved the contents of my original maildir's to the new server and ste permissions and group membership

Howto test upgrades?
...esponsibility than before and we can do things we couldn't before. We are deploying our software with ansible and dynamically generating docker containers - I'm trying to create an ansible playbook for samba with three different flavors: 1. Create new domain controller from template for desaster recovery: Install configuration, add users, add groups, add dns entries - all from (plain text) backup. 2. Add new domain controller to existing domain (Join, rsync sysvol ..) 3. Create domain member (file server): Install configuration, pam... --> done already This is a lot of effort beca...

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Hello List, we have a running (test) AD samba4 system running successful for several month. We are now trying to add more DCs to the mix and have a proper backup/desaster recovery strategy. Basically I wan't to adapt the samba_backup script found in the sources to backup everything via git into our repository. I understand that the best solution would be to tar everything before commit. In case of disaster recovery I wan't to write another script that rest...

A simple backup
All, I''ve got one Xen server running CentOS 5, with 3 CentOS virtual machines on it. I have what I hope is a simple question: I''d like to backup the virtual machines. I don''t care about anything but the ability to restore a couple of files and be able to be back up and running quickly. At some point I''ll have a spare server ready to migrate running Xen
