IP address
Hi,
We have some tight controls in our systems and I am having difficulty
downloading/upgrading R packages. The IT department will configure our
system to let me download packages from two or three R depositories.
How do I find out what the IP address of the R depositories are so that
I can select a few? The IT department needs to know the IP addresses.
Thanks,
Jorge Nieves

Actually, some times we run such regressions for about 300K securities.
Performing regressions in loop takes a long time. On the contrary, running
on SAS is much faster.
Thank you in advance.

sources of 2.4.0 patched
...my development environment
(Win2000, cygwin plus all the necessary tools including MinGW compilers and
MiKTex).
I get the tarballs form ftp://ftp.stat.math.ethz.ch/Software/R and I
noticed that the only R-patched there is dated 2006-10-03, while R-devel is
up to 2006-10-25. Did, by any chance, a depository for the R-patched
tarballs move someplace else, or is the 2006-10-03 version the latest one.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

2 (related) problems with RODBC in 64 bit Windows
Hi all,
I am encountering an RODBC problem in R 2.15.1 in windows 64 bit which I do not encountered in the same set up in windows 32 bit (the latest binary version of RODBC in both cases from the same depository gotten by install.packages(‘RODBC’), Oracle ODBC client software installed in 64 and 32 bit respectively)
1. The code looks like

Samba setup for CentOS-4.4 workstations
I am trying to get our prototype Linux workstation to allow users to see
shares on our legacy MicroSoft Windows-2000 Domain Server, I can find
guides for setting up Samba as a Primary Domain Controller but I cannot
seem to locate any good and expansive guide for setting up a samba
workstation and just joining the domain. Perhaps this is so trivial a
process no-one thinks that it requires such a

Updating packages in Ubuntu feisty for 2.5
Hi,
I would like to run R2.5.1 in Ubuntu feisty on an AMD64 chip.
I am a total newbie to Linux.
I have successfully compiled 2.5 however, I am not able to figure out
how to upgrade the packages.
I am not able to find an R-base-core_2.5.1-1_amd64 or all on the CRAN mirrors.
I can find one on the Ubuntu feisty site, however when I try to
install it I get a warning that Dependency is not stisfiable:

...e do not give w access to the guid, only to the uuid.
I therefore issued a chmod -R g+w * in the /var/spool/svn
directory and svn thereafter worked as desired for privileged and
non-privileged userids alike.
My questions are three (four):
1. Is this behaviour (limiting access to a central svn depository
to a single userid) intentional? (If so then why?)
2. Have I created future problems by loosening svn access to such
an extent?
3. Is there a better way to accomplish this?
Regards,
Jim

Any suggestions?

Problems installing R
Hi,
I am new to Linux and have a linux machine running ubuntu (hardy heron). I
installed R 2.9.1 using the deb file provided on the R website. However I
can't install 'affy' - one of the R packages and apparently this is because
of the lib settings. I've tried to install R using the command line but I
can't add:
deb http://cran.uk.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu hardy

1. Unless there is a good reason not to, please always cc the list. As you
note, I may misunderstand or just be too stupid, so you increase your
chance of getting a good answer by ccing them, which I have done here
2. It looks like you need to install the multcomp package. Have you?
Cheers,

Hi all,
Hi all,
as I told earlier, I am installing an email server with
postfix/dovecot/dspam (for now that's all, though some programs may come
later). For now, what works good enough is that I receive mails and spams
are tagged. Dovecot version 1.1.7-r1 compiled from the gentoo depository
with debug.
The path of a mail is
1/ to be passed to dspam by postfix as a virtual transport with this in
master.cf:
dspam unix - n n - - pipe
flags=DRhu user=vmail argv=/usr/bin/dspam --client
--deliver=innocent,spam --user ${recipient}

rubystandard library question
I have a problem getting find.rb and fileutils.rb to coexist in the
