Strange slapd behavior...
Hi all, I have problems on one CentOS 4.6 with slapd. Namely, after trying to start it (via /etc/init.d/ldap start) it waits for very long in configuration check. Interestingly, when I try to start it manually, but without "-u ldap" option it starts immediately. What puzzles me more is the use of NETLINK socket when started with -u option that doesn't appear in strace output

Digium and mailing lists
I was somewhat concerned reading Mark's posting earlier today. Obviously, things are very bad in the US at the moment. Their Government even deported Cat Stevens the other day (check http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3686992.stm ). Clearly, given the fact that Digium contributes so much to Asterisk, they shouldn't be forced to risk their company's future by hosting these

f/oss routing solution?
I'm looking for an open source router solution, and someone from the list recently recommended zebra (www.zebra.org). I haven't yet identified all my needs, but I'm guessing that it will do all my routing needs for a, say, class C set of IP addresses, particularly if I ever have to do anything BGP-related. Anyone have any pointers before I delve in? Or possibly a recommendation for

Newbie question - Wrong Way to map a share?
After a recent upgrade (details below) as many as 30 percent of our returning users are having trouble mapping SAMBA shares of their home directories on the "terra" server. Many report that the problem "just goes away." I've only been able to pin down a couple of them. Here's what I see. User tries to map the drive, fails, and get a box with the window: Username:

Is there Wine-like software for other guest platforms?
The wine concept--a compatibility layer that allows running executables compiled for Windows on a Linux or Unix host--is a very useful concept that could reasonably be used to adapt between other platforms. It's somewhere between running a virtual machine and cross-compiling the application. Is there anything similar for other (non-Windows) guest platforms? Right now, I'm specifically

Poor man''s backup by attaching/detaching mirror drives on a _striped_ pool?
Hi, one quick&dirty way of backing up a pool that is a mirror of two devices is to zpool attach a third one, wait for the resilvering to finish, then zpool detach it again. The third device then can be used as a poor man''s simple backup. Has anybody tried it yet with a striped mirror? What if the pool is composed out of two mirrors? Can I attach devices to both mirrors, let them
