Deployment Guide in french?
Hi,
I have CentOS 5 installed, and I'd like to read the RHEL 5 Deployment
Guide in french.
The online version seems to be available in english only.
There's an RPM package on my system:
# rpm -qa | grep -i depl
Deployment_Guide-fr-FR-5.0.0-19.el5.centos
Deployment_Guide-en-US-5.0.0-19.el5.centos
Now what does the package consist of? 'rpm -ql' on the package shows a
series of .xml files in /usr/share/doc/Deployment_Guide-fr-FR-*.
Question: how do I access these?
My GNOME desktop is in french OK. Only when I acc...

* Some packages are missing. It's a pity some subpackages that don't
depend on %arch are still built as .%arch.rpm, but there's nothing I'm
willing to do about that. The missing packages are:
- openoffice.org
- tetex-doc
- kdelibs-apidocs
- Deployment_Guide, except for en_US and pt-BR
- *-javadoc, except for:
- java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-javadoc (required by eclipse)
- bsh-javadoc and xmlrpc-javadoc (part of java-devel group)
Note that both Deployment_Guide and openoffice.org have updates, so if you
don't care about kdelibs-apidocs, tete...

should vsftpd be disabled in favour of sftp for security reasons?
(another in an ongoing list of things i just want to clarify for the
sake of future courses taught on centos.)
from this RHEL doc page:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Deployment_Guide/s1-openssh-server-config.html
the reader is advised to, for the sake of security, remove/disable
vsftpd, ostensibly in favour of sftp/sftp-server. really?
i can obviously see disallowing stuff like telnet and rsh and
rlogin, that's a no-brainer. but advising against vsftpd for the sake

How much SWAP Space.
Hi,
I have loaded CentOS 5.6 on HP DL 180G6 2U Rack Server and the
physical RAM is 32 GB. As per
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/ch-swapspace.html
It says it should be 1 x of Physical RAM or less. Not sure about the
"less" word in deciding swap space size
Please suggest/guide further on what all parameters i should decide to
set swap space.

Kaushal

setup iptables to allow forwarding through eth1
...works fine like this. But when I switch on the iptables
service (with default setup, configured when installing the server),
routing stops working (or at least I cannot ping a server in network A
from network B). I guess the firewall is stopping it, so I read
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Deployment_Guide/s1-firewall-ipt-fwd.html
and issued the commands
# iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -j ACCEPT
# iptables -A FORWARD -o eth1 -j ACCEPT
but that did not help.
So I am asking: what is the correct iptables command to make forwarding work?

Adding user's and groups
Is it ok to edit the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files manually to add users and groups or would this circumvent other required system commands from being executed when adding them at the command line via useradd and groupadd?
In reading the docs @ http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/s1-users-tools.html#s2-users-cmd-line I see a user that is created with these utilities is disabled until unlocked with passwd. If someone is creating users for services without home dirs and shell access, how do you handle the password? Looking at the example provided in a doc I am reading,...

Centos7 poblems with dnssec-keygen
I am reading:
https://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/s1-bind-rndc.html
I have bind installed and default config running. I have not applied my
customizations yet. The first step I am taking is getting rndc.key
created. So reading the guide I am trying to run (while logged in as
root, and in /etc):

Overdue upgrade of bind
I am **FINALLY** starting in on upgrading my domain server.
Right now it is still on bind-9.3.6 via Centos 5.5. Stepping right up
to 9.8.2 in Centos 6.3.
I am pretty good with zone files and the like, though I will finally get
to tackle DNSSEC (and I can go to the sources Austien, Vixie, and Liu if
need be or even the bind list!), but right now I have much more mundane
issues.

I am following the instructions at

The part I am having trouble with is when it show the
/etc/racoon/racoon.conf file.
But it doesn't say whay you have to do with this file.

Configuring BIND to answer to two domain names (four IP addresses)
...s for
exampleB.com. Apache is running on this machine, and should of course
serve pages for the sites.
I think that I've got the apache configuration down, but the BIND
configuration is eluding me. I've read the following fine manual, but
I am still stuck:
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/ch-bind.html
Additionally, I have googled for "how to configure bind for multiple
domain names" and the like, but I see no mention of the IP addresses
configuration. Can I simply configure any IP address that the server
answers to as the nameservers? What am I missing?
Thank you i...

LDAP Authentication to Lotus Domino?
Has anybody done any authentication to Lotus Domino using LDAP?
I selected LDAP options in the "authconfig-tui" application, per the
documentation here:
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/s1-ldap-pam.html
when I try to query the directory for user information though, I get
no results using the ldapsearch command
