Upgrading SAMBA from 4.2.2 to 4.2.13
Hey everyone
Have a (relatively) old CentOS SAMBA4 Active Directory running version
4.2.2, time to upgrade to the latest in the 4.2 series.
As it's running as a VM on ESXI I have it backed up by VEEAM and I can take
a snapshot before making any changes.
Any major items to be aware of before upgrading to 4.2.13? Any reason I
should not perhaps be looking a bit further to the 4.4.x

Recommended stations on a server and slave domain controller
Hello Marc,
Thank you for your answer.
About multiple DCs in one domain, Do you have any documentation or a
link that could explain us how to make this type of architecture ?
As I told you, the final aim is to have more than 100 000 users in one
domain, is this a mistake to use a single master DC ?
If we can't do this, is there a special feature to develop to make this
infrastructure

Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
Thanks Marc,
I can see your point. The Samba version we used, is 4.3.11-Ubuntu.
I have not found any newer package for Ubuntu. We have found no other
way to upgrade this, than to download 4.6.3, then make, make install and
.configure. We have followed this guide:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu.
Anyway, it states "Please

Hardware decisions
I have a very small Samba4 system that supports my W7 clients. So small,
in fact, that I have only one DC (right now.) My DC is a 32-bit Pentium4
processor (512Mb RAM, 60Gb hdd), small form factor case, I got lucky and
found for cheap$$. My member server is a Intel DuoCore PC with RAID 1
(mdadm) hard drives mirrored running on Debian 7.8.0. And my backup
machine is a seperate (does only backup)

There are no primary, secondary, etc. in an AD - just DCs.

This depents. If the patch is part of the next release, you download the
tarball from the next release and that's it. Was the patch for some
reason not included in the

which NIC is samba4 AD using ?
1. I need to know by using a command -if possible- or antoher way, which NIC is samba AD using? Apart of looking for the 'interfaces' option in the smb.conf. So, Exists other way to know that? Because if I coding this method expecting for the smb.conf, I could have problems if smb.conf has been deleted.
2. If during provisioning a DC I don't specify the network interface Samba select

How can I update to Samba 4.6.3 version ?
Is the same strucure samba 4.6 version and samba 4.2? Is there any
incompatibility?

respond_to and format
Hello!
I use a "format" parameter in my application for internal calculations.
But Rails catches it and uses for view name.
I mean, if I go to url:
myapp.com/foo/?format=xml
Rails tries to show me index.xml.erb view, but I don''t want this! I want
the application to continue showing index.html.erb template.
How can I do this?
Thanks :)

How to do basic task: add samba4 member server to samba4 ad dc?
I want to add a samba4 server to a samba4 AD domain, and serve file-shares from it.
The closest URL I found is this:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server
However, it is not enough. Would some one please point me to better documentation, or tell me how to go about this?
Problems I have with the above url:

Samba 4 LDAP/LDB search speed
Hi list,
we're in the process of converting our Samba 3 / OpenLDAP systems to Samba4.
Since these machines also run applications (Postfix, Zarafa) that
retrieve their information from LDAP, performance of the LDAP server is
quite important to us.
While testing, it seems that the S4 LDAP server is a lot slower than
OpenLDAP. So, I would like to ask two questions:
1. What is the

DNS backend
Hello.
which are the main differences between Samba_Internal and BIND9_DLZ ?
I refer to the differences about functionality such as zone transfers and automatic updates.
Which others functionalities offers BIND9, that Samba_Internal doesn't support ?
Is it possible to use a DNS Server (Bind9) separate of the DC Samba4? I mean, in other server.
Thanks for reply,
FelipeGS6 .
