Input on application design
I have an online doctor/dentist search. Right now I have all the code in one controller, with separate views and actions for the doctor and dentist. About 80% of the code in both the controller and the view is shared. Doctors and dentists are in separate tables with different (yet very similiar) schema''s. So the sql...

OT, security: if you're in the US, and like your dentist, call them, *now*
If you like your dentist, *call* them, today. <http://krebsonsecurity.com/2016/04/dental-assn-mails-malware-to-members/>, and the URL says it all - they mailed a card with a USB key... and some of them have malware, and Krebs says not all virus scanners can detect it.... mark "got off the phone with...

error message in simulation
Dear R-users, I am a dentist (so forgive me if my question looks stupid) and came across a problem when I did simulations to compare a few single level and two level regressions. The simulations were interrupted and an error message came out like 'Error in MEestimate(lmeSt, grps) : Singularity in backsolve at level 0,...

Debian packages for dovecot 1.1.x
Because I'm tired of seeing Debian users look like idiots for using such horribly out of date versions just because they run "stable", I've set up a page with .deb packages of my 1.1.x rebuilds for use under lenny. http://www.rollernet.us/opensource/ Standard disclaimer applies: use at your own risk, no warranty, no support, if it eats your first born or erases your computer

how to install yags in R
...#39;t figured out. I know gee and geepack can also perform generalized estimating equation, but the reason why I need yags is I want to perform a Small Sample Adjustments by Michael P. Fay and Barry I. Graubard in Biometrics, 2001, 57: 1198-1206. I'm working on some dental data (I'm a dentist) with repeat measurements on relatively small sample sizes (around 20 to 50 teeth), and GEE seems to be quite ineffient (i.e. less powerful) compared to other methods. I wonder it is really due to the sample size is too small, and GEE should not be used? Many thanks in advance. best regards,...

Multiple comparison tests - Homogenous subsets (i.e. for Tukey)
...not contain zero.) .. I am already able to figure out the subsets "manually". But for larger groups the risk to make errors increases. I found a description of the SPSS algorithm (here: http://www1.uni-hamburg.de/RRZ/Software/SPSS/Algorith.115/app10_post_hoc_tests.pdf ) but as a dentist I cannot really figure out how to do it with R myself. Any help or hint is appreciated very much. Thanks a lot already in advance. Karl-Heinz -- Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Kunzelmann Dept. UID sync errors
...in version 0.99 below. My log shows errors like this all day long for pretty much all users: dovecot: Jun 25 19:12:46 Error: POP3(nmichel): Maildir /home/rtb/users/nmichel/.Maildir sync: UID < next_uid (42 < 43, file = msg.oP8c:2,) dovecot: Jun 25 19:25:59 Error: IMAP(lcrowe): Maildir /home/dentist/users/lcrowe/.Maildir sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox (70 > 4, file = msg.AM81:2,) When this happens, IMAP and POP3 drop the connections sending errors to their clients. I use squirrelmail over IMAP and some new emails never appear until I delete the index files. I have tried del...

Fedora change that will probably affect RHEL
...hat doesn?t tell us that it is a good idea to allow weak passwords. If you will allow me to return to biology, it?s like saying that prophylaxis is a bad idea because it points out how imperfect our immune systems are. Stop covering your face when you sneeze, stop using condoms, stop going to the dentist: we need stronger humans, so let?s evolve some! > There are > overwhelmingly worse side effects of password dependency than > immunization. That seems like a falsifiable statement, so I expect you will be able to point to a scientific paper that supports that assertion. > And also, a...

Publishing a webcam on a web page?
This talk of cameras has reminded me of a problem I've not yet been able to solve. I have a Logitech Communicate STX ( ID 046d:08ad Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX ) This seems to work under v4l on CentOS 5.4. If I load xawtv (from rpmforge) then I can view the image from the camera. But what I'd like to be able to do is have the image appear on a web page (maybe streaming

Feature Request: Config Dump
Hello, One of the less friendly lists I am on is the Postfix list, but one of the features that Postfix has, and the use of which is required when asking for help on their list, is a command called 'postconf', which simply dumps the current configuration parameters into a neat, orderly output that you can then cut-n-paste into an email request for help. The postfix guys won't

Downloading e-mail from a master mail server
Hi all: I am trying to migrate a small company from Microsoft Exchange / Outlook to Thunderbird. I am evaluating e-mail server software. We have an Internet provider that we do not really want to rely upon. We also do not have the resources to maintain a mail server visible from the outside, especially regarding security updates. Each employee has an e-mail account on our current Internet

Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
Hello, The WoW 4.0 Cataclysm patch landed today, and there's bound to be lots of questions about getting it running in wine. My current status is that I've downloaded the patch and installed it. I've got the new (original WoW) login screen graphic. Once I login, I see a new character background and then a "downloading update" message. Wine crashes moments later.
