Status on Poweredge Dell with Raid
I know this is off-topic to the list, but someone asked me to make the information that I garnered about Dell Poweredge systems available to the list. So, here it is. Basically, after a search on dejanews, I came across this article: http://x5.dejanews.com/getdoc.xp?AN=430135686&CONTEXT=917266543.1696071777&hitnum=19 In it, someone states that there are drivers for the PERC RAID controllers, but there are no drivers available for the PERC/2 Single channel PCI system (the faster 80 MB/sec...

Postscript Printing Problems.
I've searched both the archives and dejanews, to no avail. I'm trying to get a hp 4mp (PostScript) print out sane output. I've got a old machine running Red Hat Linux, hooked up to the 4MP. The printcap prints up postscript just fine. I make the printer a share, tell it that the printer is postscript, then go to the win98 box, ch...

need mount version 6 ???
I just installed linux 2.1.85 on a Red Hat 5.0 box that was the 2.0.31 kernel. Now my smbfs is broken. When I try to access a share on another SMB box, I get: SMBFS: need mount version 6 smbmount returns "invalid parameter" error, IIRC. I've gone cross-eyed staring at DejaNews today, trying to find a solution to this, but so far only other people reporting the problem, and no one has a solution. Is this a known problem? Any cures? -- David Wollmann dwollmann@ibmhelp.com

Int21h handling under samba
...her file in the directory or "FF" in AX if there aren't anymore files. 2 questions: Does it sound like I'm on the right track with the troubleshooting? Has anyone else run into this problem and is there a fix or workaround? I searched the mailing list archives on samba.org and dejanews without any luck, although I did find a post on dejanews dated 12/17/1999 describing a problem someone is having with the "touch" utility that MAY be related under the subject line: Problem with "touch.exe" under Smb 2.0.6. Any help or insight would be much appreciated. TIA J...

Samba 2.0 RedHat/PAM password troubles found and solved!
I tried upgrading from samba 1.9 to 2.0 on two seperate RedHat servers, and after both upgrades nobody could get authenticated. The windows boxes had the registry hacks to turn off encrypted passwords, and I'm authenticating out of passwd+shadow. I found many similiar posts on DejaNews and in the samba mailing list archives. I broke out strace and found the problem. Samba 2.0 tries to open: /etc/pam.d/samba and failing (since it doesn't exist on any box I've ever seen) opens /etc/pam.d/other The contents of which are: #%PAM-1.0 auth required /lib/secur...

R-beta: Problem with functions using sub and gsub
Previously I had problems with data(foo) and Gass and I had problems with help(). His diagnostic was "POSIX regular expressions not available" and mine was "invalid regular expression". Martin Maechler has no problems with Solaris 2.5 and suggested a regular expression library was needed, e.g., regex-x.xx. Solaris 2.4 has regex.o in /usr/ccs/libgen.a and regex.h in

smbmount -- what am I missing?
...linux machine. I can use smbclient to get to the shared disk, using this format: smbclient //win95.machine/share <password> The win95.machine is listed in my /etc/hosts file. I've tried every permutation of the smbmount syntax that I've been able to find in the documentation, dejanews, or this mailing list. Perhaps I've missed some. I always get the same error message: Session request failed (131,130) with myname=<MYLINUXMACHINE> destname=<WIN95.MACHINE> Called name not present Try to connect to another name (instead of <WIN95.MACHINE>) You may fi...

Roaming Profile not found - replacement PDC
Howdy everyone: Here's an interesting one: I have joined a machine to the domain, and I log on. Then, I get a message to the effect that the user's roaming profile couldn't be [loaded or found?], and a local profile will be used instead (and actually this also fails, but is not the point of my question... I don't think). Background ========== I took my previous PDC, and

FW: rsa_public_encrypt() exponent too small or not odd
...(32bit compile) OpenSSL 0.9.6 Zlib 1.1.3 Cflags: -Ae I keep getting "rsa_public_encrypt() exponent too small or not odd" with the SSH 1 or 1.5 protocols. I can't get OpenSSH to communicate with itself with any protocal other than SSH 2. I have searched everywhere. Google, OpenBSD, Dejanews, etc... I found a very old problem that was similar in the OpenSSH mail archives but the rsa.c code file is newer then the fix described. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SUMMARY: Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
My whole problem as far as samba was concerned was not compiling with DES support *and* that I did compile with FAST_SHARE_MODES. One clue was this in the samba.log. file. I then did a dejanews search for smb_shm_open and came up with that portion of the solution. ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 11 The DES portion came from just reading the WinNT.txt file that came with Samba. I can now connect to my Win95 machines and WinNT machines, though it made no mention that this was...

A question ...
Hi, I'm running windows 98 on my workstation and there're couple of unix boxes around, they're BSDI, SOLARIS which are all configured to run SAMBA. One strange thing is that everytime I try to get into my unix home dir under win98 workstation, I will be asked for a password, but no matter what password I put in, I won't be allow to go in. That didn't happen before under

Some MS Software doesn't work with SAMBA?
Can it be that our accounting packages don't work on SMB and only with NT? I would HATE to put a NT Box into the mix. Ruben -- Brooklyn Linux Solutions http://www.mrbrklyn.com http://www.brooklynonline.com 1-718-382-5752

Bug report: find_subnet_for_nmb_packet(): response record not found...
.... not the Samba server. I have searched through the mailing list archives at www.samba.org and found a couple of unanswered questions about the very same message. I have read the FAQ. I have grep:ed through /usr/doc/samba-2.0.6/* for find_subnet_for_nmb_packet without any hits. I have looked on DejaNews. I have searched www.alltheweb.com for find_subnet_for_nmb_packet. I have read the man-page of nmbd. All without getting any hints as to what may be wrong. So, some help would be really appreciated! Pine 4.02 and directory perms
...d/installed Pine 4.02 for my RH 5.0 machine today (didn't see an RPM last time I checked ftp.redhat.com:/pub/contrib), and after I got it installed, it kept giving me errors about not being able to create a lockfile when dinking with my mailspool in /var/spool/mail. After doing some digging on DejaNews and the Pine website, I find a document who says the solution is to 'chmod 1777 /var/spool/mail' (you can read the doc at http://www.washington.edu/pine/QandA/sysadmins.html). Now, here's the question: isn't this inherently bad? Doesn't this allow all sorts of exploits and suc...

AW: Machines not disappearing from browse list
I've exactly the same problem. My config looks similar to yours: 1 samba as wins server (wins support=yes" on one segment, 1 samba as "wins server client" (wins server = xxx). The "wins server client" never discards machines from segment 1. I looked at the browse.dat and the wins.dat on the server on segment 1. There are no entries of the shutdowned maschines. Only in

semaphores and Solaris 7 8/99
I just installed the 8/99 release of Solaris 7 on three Sun Ultra 10's and it seems to have broken Samba. I am running Samba 2.0.5a and it works fine on an Ultra 10 running the 5/99 release of Solaris 7. All of the Ultra 10's are using the 64 bit kernel. This is the errors that I am getting. Samba PDC with 100+ Client Experiences?
First of all, kudos to the Samba crew. You've made a great application, which will hopefully commodotize Microsoft's biggest asset, their NT server. I've set up Samba 2.0.0 as a PDC with roaming profiles. All seems to work well with the small limited set of machines I've used. Backgrounds and all settings seem to be saved, and all works well. It took quite a bit of time to get

newbie list
I've sometimes thought it would be useful to have another mail list called "no I haven't read the documentation but someone can save me a lot of time," or perhaps just "newbie" for short. This can be very useful for people just getting started in R and with school starting soon I expect the help list may become overwhelmed. Of course, I think that people should read all
