How do I clean up corrupted files from zpool status -v?
Hi Folks.. I have a system that was inadvertently left unmirrored for root. We were able to add a mirror disk, resilver, and fix the corrupted files (nothing very interesting was corrupt, whew), but zpool status -v still shows errors.. Will this self correct when we replace the degraded disk and resilver? Or is there something else that I''m not finding that I need to do to clean up? This is Solaris 10 u8, zpool v15 15:52:50 catalina(34)> sudo zpool status -v pool: zroot state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data...

ZFS RAID-Z2 degraded vs RAID-Z1
...a sparse file (''mkfile -n 2000G'') offlined after pool creation, I was able to start using my pool before my 6th disk arrived. Once it''s here, I''ll swap it in for the sparse file and let it resilver. Can someone with a stronger understanding of ZFS tell me why a degraded RaidZ2 (minus one disk) is less efficient than RaidZ1? (Besides the fact that your pools are always reported as degraded.) I guess the same would apply with RaidZ2 vs RaidZ3 - 1disk. Thanks -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

zpool degraded status after resilver completed
I am curious why zpool status reports a pool to be in the DEGRADED state after a drive in a raidz2 vdev has been successfully replaced. In this particular case drive c0t6d0 was failing so I ran, zpool offline home/c0t6d0 zpool replace home c0t6d0 c8t1d0 and after the resilvering finished the pool reports a degraded state. Hopefully this is incorrect. At this poi...

Help interpreting RAID1 space allocation
...0.19+20130315-5). The host uses an Intel Atom 330 processor, and runs the 64-bit kernel with a 32-bit userland. I initially created the volume as RAID1 data, then removed (hotplugged out from under the system) one of the drives while empty as a test. I then unmounted and remounted it with the degraded option and copied a small amount of data. Once verifying that the space was used, I hotplugged the second original drive, which was detected and added back to the volume (showing up in a filesystem show instead of missing). I then tried to copy over more data than a RAID1 should be expected to...

OpenSolaris 2008.11 - resilver still restarting
Just look at this. I thought all the restarting resilver bugs were fixed, but it looks like something odd is still happening at the start: Status immediately after starting resilver: # zpool status pool: rc-pool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected. action: Determine if the device needs to be replaced, and clear the errors using ''zpool clear'' or replace the device with ...

Zfs ignoring spares?
...Now, it seems two of these drives were bad, one of them had a bunch of errors, the other was very slow. After zfs offlining these and then zfs replacing them with online spares, resilver ended and I thought it''d be ok. Appearently not. Albeit the resilver succeeds, the pool status is still degraded. A test with iozone also shows that the two degraded VDEVs are not used (much) during the test. See below for zpool -xv output. I have done a few test on another system, and it showed, with raidz2 with a spare, removing one drive, waiting for it to resilver, same degraded status. zpool clear doesn...

Is the error threshold for a degraded device configurable?
I look after an x4500 for a client and wee keep getting drives marked as degraded with just over 20 checksum errors. Most of these errors appear to be driver or hardware related and thier frequency increases during a resilver, which can lead to a death spiral. The increase in errors within a vdev during a resilver (I recently had three drives in an 8 drive raidz vdev "...

zfs
Hi, folks, testing zfs. I'd created a zpoolz2, ran a large backup onto it. Then I pulled one drive (11-drive, one hot spare pool), and it resilvered with the hot spare. zpool status -x shows me state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or invalid. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state. action: Replace the device using 'zpool replace'. see: http://zfsonlinux.org/msg/ZFS-8000-4J scan: resilvered 1....

Btrfs in degraded mode
Hello, I have created a btrfs filesystem with RAID1 setup having 2 disks. Everything works fine but when I try to umount the device and remount it in degraded mode, the data still goes into both the disk. ideally in degraded mode only one disk show disk activity and not the failed ones. System Config: Base OS: Slackware kernel: linux 3.3.2 "sar -pd 2 10" shows me that the data is been written/read from both devices. Also, Is there any w...

Graceful degradation of signal
Hello all. In the shower the other day (where most of this sort of musing gets done, eh?) I was thinking about graceful degradation of audio signals. Let me apologise in advance if these are elementary concepts or if I demonstrate a complete lack of insight -- I don't rate even a dabbler status in the area of audio codecs. Anyway: If we have a 128kbs signal coming down a *udp* channel with

[PATCH v2 1/3] appliance: init: Avoid running degraded md devices
The issue: - raid1 will be in degraded state if one of its components is logical volume (LV) - raid0 will be inoperable at all (inacessible from within appliance) if one of its component is LV - raidN: you can expect the same issue for any raid level depends on how many components are inaccessible at the time mdadm is running and raid r...

degrading gracefully - how to tell if JS is enabled?
Is there a RoR best practice wrt determing in a visitor''s browser has JS disabled? Is there even a way to find out? I''ve got a couple of pages in my app that are not going to degrade gracefully at all. I really need to point a visitor who has JS disabled down a seperate path. Any ideas? merge performace degradation in 2.9.1
...3.7 7.28 61.3 As you notice the 2.9.1 has an nchar entry that is quite time consuming. Is there a way to avoid the degradation in performance in 2.9.1? Thank you, Adrian As an aside, I got interested in testing merge in 2.9.1 by reading the r-devel message from 30-May-2009 "Degraded performance with rank()" by Tim Bergsma, as he mentions doing merges, but only today decided to test.

Degraded zpool won''t online disk device, instead resilvers spare
...-11.13:08:13 zpool online tank.2 c5t23d0 2007-12-11.19:52:38 zpool online tank.2 c5t29d0 You can see that I manually attached 2 of the spare devices to the pool. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state. action: Attach the missing device and online it using ''zpool online''. see: http://www.sun.com/msg/ZFS-8000-D3 scrub: resilver completed...

Performance degradation on multi-processor system
Hi, We are seeing performance degradation when running the same R script in multiple instances of R on a multi-processor system. We are a bit surprised by this because we figured that each instance of R is running in its own processor, and therefore running a second, third or fourth instance should not affect the performance of the first instance. Here's a test script that exhibits this

Extremely slow raidz resilvering

Then: $ zpool datos replace c12t0d0 Now the resilvering is taking way too much time to complete and the disk throughput is horrible.
