[LLVMdev] Is PIC code defeating the branch predictor?
I noticed that we generate code like this for i386 PIC:
calll L0$pb
L0$pb:
popl %eax
movl %eax, -24(%ebp) ## 4-byte Spill
I worry that this defeats the return address prediction for returns in the function because calls and returns no longer are matched.
From Intel's Optimization Reference Manual:
"The return address stack mechanism augments the static and dynamic

Half-life: Day of Defeat problems.
Hey, I have been having day of defeat fps problems. It's like some maps I get a constant 90 fps and on others I can barely reach 60. I shouldn't be having fps trouble on a game that's almost 10 years old. So I was wondering if there's anything I can do to keep my fps at 90 all the time on all maps. So if someone could please help me, that would be great! Thanks!

[Fwd: Re: Defeating Timing Attacks Patch for OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 and 2.9p2]
Nicolas,
The timing attack described in the paper by Dawn Song et al. works by
examining the timing of keystrokes. Currently OpenSSH sends a packet
every time you press a key, thus it is possible to capture the
approximate inter-keystroke timing of a user (they found minimal
overhead
in time from a key press to packet sent). Our patch causes a packet to
be sent every 50 ms regardless of whether

Day of defeat 1.3 mic issues
Hey, I was playing day of defeat 1.3 today and people were telling me my mic sounds distorted. So due to the game being a game where the mic is needed, I was wondering if there is any way to fix it. So if you could please tell me how, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

bad fonts in day of defeat source
All fonts displayed in day of defeat source ( at the main menu [Find servers...Options...] in sub-menus, and chat in game) all seem to be missing letters. At first glance the words look scrambled but looking closer, just some letters of the alphabet are not being displayed. Usually this is about half the alphabet making most text unreadable. Sometimes when I run dod, this doesn't happen, but

Finding and defeating a stale object
Hello,
After a rather major update to our site, suddenly we are getting a
large # of "Attempted to update a stale object" errors.
I am quite new to rails and I understand the concept of optimistic
locking but I don''t know how to track down and kill the multiple
attempts at saving an object.
Can someone please give me some pointers?
Thanks for any help!

I recently installed wine, and followed this document https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CounterStrike to install steam.
After installing steam I logged into my account and installed Day of Defeat Source from my steam account.
After downloading and installing when I click play I got this error in my command line:

Platinum Blu-Ray Defeat the World
I ordered the Limited Edition Diamond Collector's Set,because I'm a big Disney dvd (http://www.seriesonsale.com/DVDs/Walt-Disney-s-100-Years-Of-Magic-164-Discs-DVD-Box-Set-24.html)fan. I was blown away by how nice the set really is. The box is lined in velvet with gold embossments. The lithographs are of pencil animation, so you get to see all of the animator's original pencil lines.

samba server for windows (I know it defeats the object...)
Hi,
is there a samba server for windows that UNIX samba clients can access.
I know this wouldn't make sense and windows mounting a unix SMB exported
directory would make so much more sense but a colleague swears that a
windows samba server exists and it is proving hard to demonstrate its
absence!

Diff tool for OSX
I''ve looked for DIFF tools for OSX but haven''t found anything good
yet. Tried guiffy (http://www.guiffy.com) but it''s very slow and the
folder comparison doesn''t indicate a change until you drill down to
the level with the difference which kinda defeats the purpose.
I''m missing TortoiseSVN and the diff tool that comes with it. Any

Could somebody point to kicstart HOWTO specific for CentOS 7?
On CentOS 7 I somehow am always given human intervention questions about
