Setting home path to a dir within a users Linux home dir
Is there a trick to append an additional directory level onto the defauly behavior of a [homes] share looking in /etc/passwd to find the users Linux home dir? It would offer a bit of protection if
Windows clients ended up in say the WinHome directory within their Linux home directory when logging in from Windows so they are not tempted to tamper with their desktop setti...

Symlinks in Capistrano?
I have a few projects with large directories (say, user-uploaded files) that
make using Capistrano a bit awkward. However, I suspect that I may have
reached the "write a custom task" level.
(I suppose I''m just thinking out loud, here...)
It seems as though I''d want this directories symlinked in /shared... Maybe

Many moons ago, the WarpServer Win2K client from IBM came with very good documentation on how to adjust that client to not create roaming profiles, etc... loolking for the same for the defauly MS
client and not turning up much with Google, nothing in the Win2K Resource Kit book (other than to look in the Win2K Server book which I don't have)...
TIA!

remote logging non-daemon mode
Greetings all. Due to security concerns we are switching our backup
processes from "SSH tunnel to rsync daemon" to "Running rsync over ssh
in --server mode". In daemon mode we had a nice conglomerate log file
of all of the backups that ran. Now that I am tweaking the scripts to
run over --server mode I see that by default there is no remote
logging. From what I have read on

make SCSI passthrough support optional
Hi all,
this series builds on my previous changes in Jens' for-4.11/rq-refactor
branch that split out the BLOCK_PC fields from struct request into a new
struct scsi_request, and makes support for struct scsi_request and the
SCSI passthrough ioctls optional. It is now only enabled by drivers that
need it.
In addition I've made SCSI passthrough support in the virtio_blk driver an
