2.9.0 and make check errors | mystery deepens
So, I tried the following configure: ./configure --with-lapack --with-blas --with-tcltk No use of ACML at all, but both lapack and blas. Configure proceeds without any errors. Make, same thing. Make check - same problem with stats. But, this time a .fail file got created in tests/Example. Bottom of the file has something which might resonate with someone out there: Error in La.svd(x, nu,

Logistic regression and R
Hello everybody :-) I have some data that I want to model with a logistic regression, most of the independent variables are numeric and the only dependent is categorical, I was thinking that I could apply a logistic regression using glm but I wanted to deepen my knowledge of this so I tried to do some reading and found the "iris" dataset, now I would like to ask two things, first

Puzzled over curve() syntax.
It's probably toadally elementary (and, like, duhhhhh) but I can't figure out why the following doesn't work: curve(function(x){qnorm(x,4,25)},from=0,to=1) I get the error: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ But if I do foo <- function(x){qnorm(x,4,25)} curve(foo,from=0,to=1) it goes like a train. Also

USA BRI -- any hope at all?
Folks -- First, apologies for not lurking for weeks or months to get the culture of the list. I read the recent post about improvement to the quality of posts with some amusement and full agreement. The problem is a big and very real one. I hope I'm not deepening it. But my question isn't explicitly asked with this subject line or definitively answered in the archives -- that I have

VLAN issue
Thank you everyone. OK, the mystery deepens, I guess. The machine does need to support several VLAN's, it is currently on a trunkport (8021q encapsulated), it made it into the ARP table - which I specifically tested for by physically unplugging the table, clearing the ARP table and plugging it back in. The ARP table currently looks like this: hq#show arp Protocol Address Age (min)

Type II and III sums of squares with Error in AOV
I've recently run into the problem of using aov with nested factors, and wanting to get the type II and III sums of squares. Normally Anova from the car package would do fine, but it doesn't like having an Error included, so my.aov <-aov(Response ~ Treatment + Error(Treatment:Replicate)) Anova(my.aov, type="II") yields Error in Anova(nested.anova) : no applicable method

I have a script that does a weekly backup on a local backup harddrive with the following command: # rsync -aRxW --delete / /mnt/backup Today I got errors because the target drive was full. It appeared nothing on the targed drive ever got deleted. When I used the following command to backup only my home dir, it worked as it should. # rsync -aRxW --delete /home/joost /mnt/backup Using rsync

An amusing afterthought : What is a rival software (ahem!) was planting this, hoping for a divide between S and R communities.or at the very minimum hoping for some amusement. an assumption or even a pretense of stealing credit is one of the easiest ways of sparking intellectual discord Most users of softwares don't really care about who gets credit ( Who wrote Windows Vista ,or Mac OS or
