removing/redirecting the Projects page
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
We've decided to decomission the (old and unused) trac instance on
projects.centos.org. We'll just redirect to git.centos.org instead
(where all the fun happens).
So, what to do with the http://wiki.centos.org/Projects page ?
deleting it ? redireting to
http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup (as now most of the th...

Promote samba-3 BDC to PDC
Hi,
We have an old domain with a samba-3 PDC and LDAP backend in our HQ and
two BDC in our branch offices.
Since we don't use the domain in our HQ anymore and one of the branches
will be moved to our new domain (2003/2008) I'm thinking about
decomissioning the PDC and promote both BDCs as PDC for their branch
offices and networks.
I would also get rid of LDAP. Changing the backend to tdbsam and
converting the data with pdbedit isn't that problem but how to do it all
without impact? :)
Cheers
Matthias

DC Upgrade Compiled to Package
Hi all-
Our domain controllers are old and hand-crafted and we are looking to replace them with the latest version (as well as make them easily redeployable).
Our current version is 2:4.0.6-12 (compiled from source and we hope to jump up to the latest packaged version as available in the Ubuntu Xenial repositories.
I've seen this page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba and

Samba 4.2 AD member accesible by name but not by IP
...ed part. I have Samba 4.2 AD DC with samba internal DNS and Server 2003 AD DC which should be decommisioned soon.
Everything worked for several months. The odd part is that suddenly Server 2003 DNS lost all its zones and Samba 4.2 was the only reliably working DC. I seized FSMO roles after forcibly decomissioned Server 2003.
I'm not sure that everything in my Samba AD DC is fine since I get weird errors running
samba-tooldrs showrepl
it says that user SERVER$@DOMAIN.LAN was not found in kerberos database
I konw it's a great mess but since the authorisation works for all member servers and wo...

DC Upgrade Compiled to Package
...everything works like expected. This ensures, in case you
have trouble later, you don't have two possible causer (version- or
package-related problems).
In case you use new hardware or a new VM:
- Install the packages
- Join Samba as a DC to the domain.
- Transfer FSMO roles (if the host to decomission owns some)
- Demote the old DC.
In case you have to use the same machine:
You have to figure out in which directories the packaged Samba version
expects the smb.conf file, databases, etc. Run "smbd -b" on your
existing DC and look at the "Paths" section. It tells you the...

CentOS-announce Digest, Vol 97, Issue 9
...-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

hi,
It started off by being a great place to share qa content and let
people track progress. But over the years, and with every passing
release, its become lesser and lesser important.
As of today, qaweb.dev.centos.org is now deprecated and is being
decomissioned. The url will still respond and redirect people to a
page that explains the situation.
In the mean time, we are kicking off a stream of efforts to try and
get better test coverage, more automation, more frequent test runs and
above all - better communication to everyone on what the test resul...

Remote update OS from 6 to 7
Hello all...
I have a remote machine running C6. I desire to update it to C7. Not
possible to be on-site. Can I copy the Everything ISO for C7 to the
machine,
mount -o loop C7.Everything.iso /media/cdrom
then do a "yum upgrade" ?
Will that work? The server is using software raid.
Thanks

Standalone Samba in a Win2008 DC environment, transition to samba
There is a network with windows 2008 AD DC and about 9 workstations
plus some printers.
The plan is to decomission the Win 2008 DC and reuse the hardware for
other purposes at a later time (may be a samba AD DC, not important
now).
Samba Standalone is to take the role of a File and Print Server in
this existing network.
Questions:
1. Can Samba 4.5 "standalone" be started temporarily in parallel wi...

That leaves two remaining builders using VS 2013:

The clang-x86-win2008-selfhost builder is completely redundant with clang-x86-windows-msvc2015. If someone can take responsibility for deleting the bu...

7.0 issues fixed? upgrade timing?
1. I have a realtek network card and am using a cable modem router. Does anyone know if fixes for problems with these (see below) have been backported from HEAD to RELENG_7?
2. Is this a good time to upgrade to RELENG_7?
3. I read a post last week that advised that 7.1 is a long way off. Appreciate any advice on use of ULE 3.0 and ZFS prior to 7.1 and a comment on what is holding up 7.1.
Thanks

IP Phone recommendations?
Hey gang,
I'm looking at escaping from a Nortel Meridian CISC system to
Asterisk/Digium/SIP phones. I'm currently in the testing and proof of
concept phase. I'm going to need a SIP phone and don't want to
re-purchase and have "orphans" around.
We currently run Nortel 7310 phones and they work great.
I'm sort of overwhelmed by all of the different IP phones. I
