"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
Hey, all. I quoted a customer about $100 for some cheap SIP phones. I was planning on using the BT-102's, but he called said they look like "Princess phones," and I have to admit that he has a point. Some of the other inexpensive phones look decent, but (for example) the SPA-841's wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be being used from a noisy

Is STP wire decent for analog phones?
I've got a run of Shielded Twisted Pair (4 conductors) which used to be a Token Ring Network drop and I'm not using it anymore. Would it be decent to replace the ends with normal analog phone connectors and use it for a phone extension, or is STP unsuitable for that? Thanks Steve

my fonts look horrible (centos5.3/xfce)
Hi all, I can't seem to get my fonts to look decent under CentOS. I was able to make them look pretty good under Ubuntu, but for the life of me I can't make them look decent on CentOS. 5v capable motherboards
Anyone have a suggestion on where I can get a decent new MB with 5v capable PCI slots. It seems like every decent server MB on the market has 3.3V slots only. Is diving into the junkbin my only choice if I can't afford to replace the 5v quad-T1 wildcard? Thanks Mark Farver

Decent How-To now on the wiki for setting up Transport Layer Security
Hi all, For anyone that's interested in setting up TLS with libvirt, but hasn't gotten around to it yet, there's a decent guide on the wiki now: http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/TLSSetup It's user focused (ie SysAdmin's), and has lots of pics explaining concepts, plus shows what needs to be done, and shows how to do it. Please note, it doesn't cover SASL, it's just

Would you switch jobs for the chance to use Textmate?
Lets say you had a pretty decent job, but your company mandated use of emacs. The poaching employer offers you a free copy of Textmate(tm). Would you jump ship solely in order to use Textmate at company B? Cheers, Dave -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Decent Asterisk Compatible VoIP HardPhone - Australia
Gee, I think the subject says the right thing. I've looked at the wiki at the various phones available, and basically I think what I am after is one of the following phones: Polycom Aastra 480i Zulty's Zip 4x4 Although after just reading through the review linked from the wiki, and the polycom website, it seems like these are one of the better phones, right up there with the cisco's?

SIP and firewalls?
Hi We are currently using Asterisk 1.2.4 with IAX and app_meetme for conferencing, but are looking to move to SIP because of issues with an IAX control we're using. The reason we moved from SIP to IAX in the first place was because of the poor NAT traversal with SIP. At that stage we were using Asterisk 1.0.*. How does Asterisk 1.2.4 handle NAT traversal and firewalls compared to the older

I would like to get at least one grandstream but the delivery charges will probably add up

Very decent book - "VoIP Telephony with Asterisk"
Just received my copy of this book today. Based on a cursory examination, "VoIP Telephony with Asterisk" (VTwA) by Paul Mahler looks like a very decent book for anyone starting out with Asterisk. More knowledgeable readers may also benefit from perusing its 290 pages as well. Unlike "Asterisk for Small Office Setup" (which I slammed in a review a couple of weeks ago) VTwA has
