Samba4 alpha17 GIT raise domain functional level
Hi. We are using samba4 as our production AD for a while in a mixed (XP, win2k3, win7, win2k8) environment. This post: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2011-February/076525.html mentions that to raise the functional level one should use this command: samba-tool domainl evel raise --domain=2008 --forest=2008 but in our current git version this command doesn't work due to the

Windows 2000 workstations can't open Excel files on Samba-2.2.7(a?) after "ServicePack-ing 4" on them.
...de as "root". Decreasing debuglevel to 1, 2, 3 and 4 re-produced the problem. Increasing to 5 and 10 made it go away again. --> Trying to repeat the same from a different workstation (where the connection was made as a normal user) recreated the problem, but in all debuglevels, including 5 and 10. My questions: * Is this an already known problem ? * What could possibly cause it? What could I do for a remedy ? * What exact tests could I run and what info could I give (apart from the obvious smb.conf, version no. etc.) to help trace it ? [I have the log files for...

what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

Bash completion thrown by quoted option args?
There was a thread about C7 bash completion back in August last year, but it doesn't have answers for this problem. Example: "yum install /path/to/local/package" works fine with tab completion to fill in the path and package bits. However, "yum --debuglevel="1" install ..." just gets stuck and doesn't offer anything. The only option is to type everything

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all, Situation: We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>, and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a bad interaction with smbclient. Eg,: # smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script): eval

Log level and debug classes
Hi, I quote from the smb.conf man page: ------------------------------------ log level (G) The value of the parameter (a astring) allows the debug level (logging level) to be specified in the smb.conf file. This parameter has been extended since the 2.2.x series, now it allow to specify the debug level for multiple debug classes. [...] Example: log level = 3 passdb:5 auth:10 winbind:2
