ZFS fails with latest C8 kernel
As if last weekend's UEFI debacle wasn't bad enough, it now seems the latest C8 kernel (4.18.0-193.14.2) is incompatible with the current ZFSOnLinux packages (0.8.4-1). When booted to the latest kernel, ZFS is inaccessible on my C8 storage server. When I back off to the prior kernel (4.18.0-193.6.3), all is well. If a local Z...

Google Chrome
I have been using CentOS on my laptop for a few days now and it works great! Great work-around for the Fedora GNOME 3 debacle. But I'm starting to miss Google Chrome pretty seriously. Firefox is just not what it once was. It's slow. Spell check is weak. Sometimes it straight up fails to display pages after going "back". There are numerous details like this that just make FF almost intolerable. And base...

Appropriate regression model for categorical variables
...est i have applied logistic regression on my data. My data consists of 50 predictors (22 continuous and 28 categorical) plus a binary response. Using glm(), stepAIC() i didn't get satisfactory result as misclassification rate is too high. I think categorical variables are responsible for this debacle. Some of them have more than 6 level (one has 10 level). Please suggest some better regression model for this situation. If possible you can suggest some article. thanking you. rake db:migrate debacle
Hi there - I''m a ruby newbie and am stuck on the Getting Started with Rails app. See output below. Problem arose when I ran the rake db:migrate command. I also tried the ''rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=development'' command which may be obvious. Any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks!! $ ruby -v ruby 1.9.3p392 (2013-02-22 revision 39386) [x86_64-darwin10.8.0]

[LLVMdev] Linker problems with Visual Studio
...unless there are some references. In the end I opted for the ugly IncludeFile() trick which is used elsewhere in the code, I include a patch with this mail. If someone has any better suggestions for how to fix this, I am all ears... The other areas which have to be resolved is the struct/class debacle and also the hash_map usage (I am using the Visual Studio STL library) -- my fix for the hash_map thing is too ugly to go in, so I won't even bother to submit a patch. Unfortunately I have to link LLVM with our own app which is using the MS STL, so resorting to using a STL library more si...

/lib/firmware/microcode.dat update on CentOS 6

3.0.x and AIX 5.3
As of AIX 5.3 sys/var.h is loaded in sys/proc.h & sys/space.h which are loaded through a rather lengthy debacle of nested includes. AIX 5.2 does not have this problem. At any rate the result when using gcc 3.3 and vac 6.x: Compiling web/cgi.c web/cgi.c:33: error: redefinition of `struct var' web/cgi.c: In function `cgi_load_variables': web/cgi.c:138: error: structure has no member named `name'...

CentOS as Development Laptop?
Hi, Is CentOS good for a desktop machine? I have been using Fedora but the whole GNOME 3 debacle has me scrambling for something else. I have a few "minimal" CentOS servers but does anyone here use CentOS on their laptop? Does wireless and suspend work ok? Are there packages for the usual desktop stuff like libreoffice, sylpheed and so on? Machine is Toshiba Portege R935. It'...

Migrate CentOS 3 to 4 to 5?
Hi, After the previous debacle with PHP and MySQL it has been decided that we think about an upgrade from CentOS 3 to 5, since that would solve our problem, if successful. I tried finding information on how to best attempt this, but thanks to a plethora of contradictory information my head is now spinning with a few rpm...

Capistrano on Windows
...of doing a Google search for "[Cool Script/Program that doesnt work under Windows] under Windows." I''m just tired of having to jump through hoops to acheive what it takes Unix users 2 seconds to do. From not ever getting "rake freeze_gems" to work, to the absolute debacle that is rails+IIS/fastcgi/lighttpd/ISAPI (you''re telling me with a straight face that I need to install Apache to get rails working in IIS? WTF?) I''m extremely frustrated. I''m whining. Back to my original question. I want to implement Capistrano on my Windows-base...

Capistrano 1.1
...is a utility for executing tasks in parallel across multiple remote hosts. It was formerly known as SwitchTower. Installation: gem install capistrano Manual: http://manuals.rubyonrails.org/read/book/17 Version 1.1 introduces a few changes: * Renamed! Due to the trademark infringement debacle of last week, we had to change the name. Moving forward it will be known as Capistrano. * The generated capistrano.rake file is simpler now than it used to be. You can easily append custom options to individual tasks now. For instance, if you want the deploy to be silent, instead of verbose...

How to configure Dovecot to disable NIST's curves and still rertain EECDH?
...nfiguring Dovecot's TLS so as to retain forward secrecy, but eliminate all of NIST's elliptic curves. Besides being subject to side channel attacks [1], in some quarters there is a general distrust of NIST's curves and any of their other cryptographic primitives after the Dual EC DRBG debacle. >From what I can tell, the following will prevent the use of NIST's curves (along with other dangerous primitives) in Dovecot, but this is accomplished by simply disabling EECDH entirely. ssl_cipher_list = HIGH:!DSS:!EECDH:!ECDH:!SHA1:!aNULL:!eNULL:@STRENGTH This should still retain fo...

[LLVMdev] Folding instructions
...fore the spiller runs, so, maybe I am not calling some methods > from LLVM > to > indicate the folding. > Hi Fernando, It's hard to say exactly what's happening because I don't know your code (though, from the stack trace, it seems like there's some sort of memory debacle), but looking at the comment in the LiveVariableAnalysis.cpp file where it's folding memory operands, it might explain somethings better: // Folding the load/store can completely change the instruction in // unpredictable ways, rescan it from the beginning. DMARC test (request)
...ere's a philosophical issue here (though I'm having difficulty conceiving a comparable analogy) that just because 1 party decides to do something that breaks long standing practice that is effective for the vast majority of people, everyone else looses. http://www.lsoft.com/news/2014/dmarc-debacle-us.asp is an excellent example of Yahoo! shooting _itself_ in the foot, breaking its products for about one month and the "fix" causing yet more issues. In both instances, Yahoo! caused additional confusion and frustration. I can completely understand it for certain uses like vendor/cu...

Addressing the problem of noisy GPUs under Nouveau
...ten ucode from here: drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nvkm/subdev/pmu/fuc correct? I only ask to rule out the possibility that IFR and Nouveau are both attempting to program fans simultaneously. The symptoms you describe don't sound like that, but just double checking... (4) Given the PMU ucode debacle, I'm embarrassed to ask, but at least on Fermi, how much does Nouveau strictly depend on Nouveau's PMU ucode? Would it be an option to just let IFR continue to manage fans? (5) Lastly, I was asked how Nouveau determines what fan speed to (attempt to) program. Thanks, - Andy On Sun, No...

Firefox seg faults
...ase.i386 [rkampen at media ~]$ sudo rpm -qa |grep fire firefox-3.0.6-1.el5.centos.i386 One machine (home) works fine on my web page www.ndgonline.net/ndg/ the other (work) seg faults - I guess it is due to the godaddy link on the bottom of the page, as plain old google loads fine. I started this debacle by removing firefox, flash and the plugin directories on my work machine under /usr/lib/mozilla and /usr/lib64/mozilla as my page loads were very slow (only the godaddy bit) and also any video content (flash based I think) failed to play, yet all this works fine on the home machine. I guess t...
