Samba 3 by Example - chapter 5 & 6 ( Manager -> sambaadmin)
...I have spent some time going over the documentation, however I still no not
fully understand what the cause is.
I am focusing on Samba 3 by Example chapter 5 & 6 specifically
Chapter 5 smbpasswd -w 123456
[root@node1 data]# smbpasswd -w 123456
Setting stored password for "cn=Manager,dc=ddesign,dc=com" in secrets.tdb
Chapter 6 indicates in the smb.conf to use sambaadmin instead of manager.
If i change this to manager in the smb.conf & also this entry in the
slapd.conf

Promoting Samba BDC to PDC
Hi All,
Has any one got an idea of how to make clients automatically
find the BDC when the PDC is stopped. Both PDC and BDC are running by
Samba authenticating again a LDAPSAM backend replicated on both the PDC
with master LDAP database and BDC with replicated LDAP database. But
when I stop PDC the clients are not detecting the BDC broadcast. I can
see that the replication is of

Replicated Failover Domain Controller and file server using LDAP
...ere
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/1.0._Configuring_Samba
everything seemed to work as described until I got into the 'Initialization LDAP Database' and preloading the edited "preload-differentialdesign.ldif" file, kept getting a failure from the
"dn: sambaDomainName= DDESIGN ,ou=Domains,dc= differentialdesign ,dc= org "
section, no matter what options I used.
Looking at my /var/log/messages on both my DC1 & DC2 I could see continual errors trying to access our either of our 2 DNS servers (example below)

Samba PDC, joining XP workstation 'network path was not found'
...le_server_using_LDAP
I am using FreeBSD instead of RHEL. I was able to get through the tutorial and get the database populated, and users created.
I created the workstation account with the smbldap-useradd -w {machinename}.
When going to the XP machine to add it to the domain, I put in the 'DDESIGN' domain, and it puts up the authentication dialog. No matter what I put in that box, I get 'The network path was not found'. If I put in the domain as something 'wrong' it of course doesn't put up an authentication dialog. So I know the domain is alive and on the network....
