Mmn, that didn't work. I dd'd the latest Fedora Live iso onto a USB
drive, put it into a brand spanking new Dell Latitude E7470, hit F12
at Dell logo and got "Selected boot device failed". Do I need to make
it bootable using fdisk or some such?

help booting iso's?
...nt is the Void Linux iso.
I'd first like to ask about something that was suggested as a possible
solution but about which I could find no documentation. I was led to
believe that it would be possible, using syslinux, to boot an iso image
located within a partition by somehow specifying its address on disk. I
see nothing in syslinux documentation, guidelines, or forum postings, that
suggests that this is really possible. So, am I correct in assuming that
the individual who suggested that is just plain wrong?
In order to succeed in booting into the the Void live environment the iso

One nice thing about upstream 7
My manager took the "binary DVD" and dd'd it onto a flash drive... and it

centos 7 will not install :(

to proceed???
After I made sure it had the correct sha256sum,
and after I burned it to DVD, and and dd'd the DVD
back to a temp file and again checked the sha256sum
of the temp file, all was OK. Same sha256sum.
So, I rebooted the machine and it booted up from
the DVD.
I got a message that it was not using VNC,

all 3 CFs are readable/writable on my desktop
after fiddling with various fdisk parameters,
I dd'd the image off the 512, and put it on both the other 2 CFs
but theyre still unbootable.
Any suggestions on how to save these CFs from the scrap heap ?
I considered hacking some printfs into chain.c32, but failure of BIOS

Mounting LVM contained ntfs systems.

Added rpmforge NTFS extension for mount command.

Upgrading to larger HD with LVM
What's the easiest way to transition to a larger HD when using LVM2? I'm
running Centos 4.4. I'm going from a 20gb HD to a 40gb HD. I've already
DD'd it to the 40gb HD. So now I have 20gb of unused space. Ideally, I'd
like to make it one big physical space for the logical space instead of
making another physical partition to expand the logical. Here is what I
have now with the system on hda, and with another HD of hdb for moving
dat...

USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G
...first reading.
I currently understand that a set active/bootable flag prevents the
USB stick from showing up in BIOS, and that without that flag it
begins to boot but fails with files not found.

If you installed Archlinux from an ISO image, then this is probably
a test candidate for USB stick.
E.g. archlinux-2013.11.01-dual.iso contains an isohybrid MBR
which makes it suitable for dd'ing on the...

I meant a disk-only image. No ISO, no hybrid.
Just an ESP and an operating system partition.
Created by partition editor, filesystem formatter,
and populated with files by you and SYSLINUX.

running for more than 4 years on a 60G LVM volume. It has had the
occasional snapshot during that time though all have been "removed"
using the virt-manager gui so I used qemu-img as you suggested.
# qemu-img convert /dev/trk-kvm-02-vg/rt44 -O qcow2 /mnt/scratch/rt44.qcow2
dd'd the qcow2 image back on to the LV after testing it boots OK
directly from the image and it is in production again.
The VM itself reports ample space available:

HP laptops with CentOS 7?
...de
- they offer RHEL... and their OMSA DVD boots... into CentOS. <g>
<snip>
And about CentOS on laptops... I've got this circa 2009 HP Netbook. The
ancient Ubuntu netbook-remix was way obsolete, so I needed to update it (I
only use it while traveling, for email and browsing). I just dd'd a CentOS
6.9 i386 live iso to a flash drive (and I still HATE systemd)... and it
booted. Perfectly. First time. Then I rebooted, and "install" is an
option. Did that, and it worked perfectly.
Happy camper, here.

[Bug 1812] New: fuzzy not working in 2.6.3-pre{1,2}

patches tell me to do, and then I installed the new version.
While the old 2.6.2 version runs perfectly, the new ones seem to completely
ignore the --fuzzy option.
Here's the exact, detailed (and boring) description of what I do:
On a remote machine, created a directory 'foo' and dd'd one megabyte of
/dev/urandom to foo1.txt and then copied foo1.txt to foo2.txt.
Then I created 'foo' directory on the local machine and copied foo1.txt here.
Then I executed the following command several times:
rsync -avP --fuzzy --bwlimit=10 remotemachine:foo/ foo/
(and of course rem...
