Odd behavior since upgrading to 4.9.6
...lf ago I upgraded from 4.0.12 to 4.9.6. Overall, things are functioning. However, I have come across several strange behaviors and wandered if anyone else has noticed similar behavior on 4.9.6 or has any suggestions of what might be occurring. As background information, I have 3 DCs (dc3, dc4 and dc5) -- all running the same version (4.9.6) and all have the same configuration; dc3 was the original holder of all 7 FSMO roles, but as of last night, they were all transferred to dc4. First off, all the DCs hold steady at different levels of memory utilized. dc3 hovers at about 1.5 GB used, dc4 ho...

Desynced DC
Hi list, We use samba 4.1.17 (debian's version) on several DCs. I just realized that one of them is desynced and cannot get it to resync. The long story: we got 5 DCs splitted over several sites. Recently we had to replace one of them (let's call him DC5). Since both had to run in parallel for data recovery/users work we decided to join a brand new DC (DC6) and latter demote the second one (DC5). Where things get even more complicated is that once DC5 has been removed we put DC6 on its IP (following wiki). We performed some cleanup in the DNS a...

samba AD database suspected corruption
...3 times a week) the DCs lockup, get stuck Having said that, I think I found a way out, but would appreciate some feedback from the experts here. In an isolated test setup, I started a clone of DC2/DC3/DC4, verified that replication is working correctly, ldapcmp as well, etc. Then I added a new DC5. DC2 (fsmo roles owner) did not pick it up at all, DC3 picked it up with WERR_DS_DRA_ACCESS_DENIED, and only DC4 picked it up nicely. So, rolled back, shutdown DC2, and seized fsmo roles on DC4, and added a new samba 4.7 DC5. DC4 picked it up nicely again. DC3 still WERR_DS_DRA_ACCESS_DENIED, s...

Permission issue
Hi, We did a classicupgrade of our Ubuntu Server (4.3.11, TDB), the server DC5 also host shares. Post the migration we are seeing some permission issues. When trying to give permission to a domain group/user to folder/file we get the following chown "LIN\\myadmin:LIN\\adgroup" adtest/ chown: invalid user: 'LIN\\myadmin:LIN\\adgroup' wbinfo --ping-dc : che...

After Update to 4.2, Samba is unusuable as member server / No user and goup resolution
Hello everybody, I've bin running Samba as a AD member server for ages (Debian stable). After the last update to 4.2, I just can't get it to work. Symptoms: unable to map AD user / groups. After two days of successlessly fiddling (and moving all data to another server with still Samba 3.6, which I will definitely NOT update at the moment), I decided to purge my Installation and start

Samba4 DNS SOA Records
Hi I have a setup with 2 DC on a main site, et 14 DCs which are located on 7 AD sites. I recently noticed in my DNS zones that my SOA record is associated to the last DC that was joined to the domain. But this DC is located on one of the remote sites. Is this behavior normal or would it be better if I updated this record via "samba-tool dns update" to point it to one of my 3 main

selftest
Thanks for the reply, Besides the problem with source4/lib/messaging/messaging_handlers.c, Good to hear that selftest is actively used, then do I understand it right that 'make test' should succeed? My bigger problem is that it failed with lots of errors. This must be a problem with my build, then, but since this is a fresh tarball I am a bit puzzled. I would appreciate some hint on
