Visual Migration Design Tool
For a really long time, I''ve been using DBDesigner from FabForce.net. For those of your who''ve never used it, its a freeware visual entity-relationship diagram tool, which allows you to make database designs visually instead of in SQL DDL. You can then use it to generate the SQL to make your databse design into reality, or even run a...

Database Modeller (Mac)
Can anyone recommend a database modelling tool for the Mac? I''m building a new Rails app and want an interface to draw out the database''s entity relationship diagram, setup foreign keys and then output DDL at the end to MySQL. I''ve previously used DBDesigner, CASE Studio and some pricier enterprise software on Windows, but can''t find anything suitable for my Mac. The MySQL Workbench project seems to have stalled and I can''t find anything suitable. Any recommendations? Thanks Barry Frost --~--~---------~--~----~------------~------...

scaffold usage
is there anyway that scaffold would read the database and I don''t have to specify any of the columns? it is really frustraiting specially when you''ve got a lotta cols and tables! I''d like to use rails for an enterprise app but not a toy app like all those apps in tutorials -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~

To Chris Hall - Re: DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Chris, Finally got time to fully play with your suggestions. Had to re-code a bit of stuff but the concept works - just like a bought one :~). Many thanks for the solution, Kind Regards, Eric. For those curious - here''s what it was about; On Monday 02 January 2006 02:10, Eric Sloane tried to type something like: > Hi, > I''m trying to figure the most efficient way to

SQL "editor"
Hello all, I am curious about what tools you guys use to make your databases. I know David uses CocoaMySQL. Are there other tools for other platforms and for other databases? I''m not very good with the SQL language, so I would like being able to do all my database setup with an easy-to-use tool (defining tables, fields, primary keys, foreign keys, indexes, etc.) Big kisses, Vincent.

Postgresql vs MySQL
Is there any reason to avoid using postgresql for small web apps? That is, is it''s overhead so large that the lighter MySQL will work substantially better for small apps on small machines? Or are they very similar in performance and configuration? I''ve used MySQL but postgresql has its appeals and I''m wondering if I need to keep MySQL around at all. On the other
