"hide files" doesn't actually hide!
Our server is displaying files that shouldn't be shown such as .DS_Store ._DS_Store among others. Our smb4.conf file contains the following line:
hide files = /_*/:*/.*/.AppleDB/.AppleDouble/.bin/.AppleDesktop/Temporary Items/
thus these files shouldn't be shown.

Group Permission issue via winbindd?
Users are having trouble accessing Samba shares via winbindd in a NT domain.
If the 'valid users' parameter for a share contained the user name for
example as follows:
valid users = DSP-John
Then John who is a member of the DSP domain can access the share. If John is
a member of a domain group called DSP-production, and the 'valid users'
parameter is as follows:

Failed to join domain - some user account restriction has prevented successful authentication
I'm setting up a FreeBSD server as a domain member of an Active Directory environment. There's two W2K22 domain controllers in the AD.
In the past, I've used the samba416 port to compile on a few FreeBSD servers. But on this new FreeBSD server, I'm using the samba416 package. After installing and configuring, I find that I am unable to join the domain. Error message as follows:

Directory Permissions?
Hello,
Running Samba 3.3.10 on FreeBSD 7.3.
Cannot copy a folder with a subfolder and 10 files in the subfolder from
an OSX 10.6.4 client to a folder on the Samba server. What happens is
that the folder gets copied but not the subfolder and its files.

Kerberos5 ticket renewal & 'net ads join' w/o authentication
Hello,
I have two issues with Kerberos administration using Samba and this
results from my lack of familiarity with it. I am hoping someone can
point me in the right direction.
The first issue is with automatically renewing the Kerberos tickets. The
second issue deals with my having to authenticate each time I attempt to
join an AD domain. The Samba documentation indicates that I should *not*

getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I'm trying to get a FreeBSD 5.4 server to join a NT4 domain as a member
domain server using winbindd. I've compiled Samba with WinBIND support, ACL
Support, Syslog support, UTMP support, SMB PAM module, and with installed
POPT library.
I've reviewed Chapter 20 of TOSHARG and implemented a good portion of it
into our smb.conf file but am having trouble making the 'getent'

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then
have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having
trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba
list in hopes someone can help me out at this point.
Can anyone help me out here?

nslcd samba 4.1 and FreeBSD 10
Hello list-
As a FreeBSD shop we've used Samba 3.x quite well for a couple years. With version 3.6 due to expire in due time, we've been experimenting with version 4.1 using winbindd with very limited success. We find that if we use the TDB backend instead of either RID or AD, we are able to enumerate our AD users via getent. I cannot enumerate AD users via either the AD or the RID
