S4 - inheritance changed by order of setClassUnion and setAs()
Dear colleagues, there is a behaviour with S4 (virtual) classes that I find very hard to understand: Depending on the position of setAs(), the tree of inheritance changes. This is my baseline example that defines the classes "grandma", "mother", "daughter" and a virtual class "mr_x". For a new instance if "daughter", "mr_x" is betweeen

S4 - inheritance changed by order of setClassUnion and setAs()
Andreas, As far as I can tell (/conjecture), this is because the list of classes a particular class inherits from directly is appended to as needed, and so the order that a class extends others isd refined by the order that those connections are defined. We can see this with two setClassUnion calls, rather than required setAs: > setClass("grandma", slots = c(a =

Sorting Data?
Hello, Im reading through some manuals, but I cannot find my answer. I have a file containing many data: Vpn Code Family Age F1 F2 ... F17 1 1 M 46 1 2 ... 1 2 1 D 18 3 2 ... 4 3 2 M 50 3 3 ... 3 ... and so on. Now I can read it by: F = read.table("file", header=T) but now I want to seperate the mothers (M) and daugthers (D) of the family with all the data in all other fields.

Should digium build a 2FXO / 2FXS 4-port daughter board?
Please chime in if you've ever wished for digium to make a 4-port daughter board with a combination of 2FXO AND 2FXS ports on the same card. When using the 800 series cards, one must either choose 4-port permutations of FXS/FXO, OR one must give up 2 valuable ports. In other words, when you add ONE 100-series daughter board, you give up TWO of your physical ports. Is there a technical

drawing a network digraph
Dear R users, I have a matrix with 2 columns with the variables: "daughter index", "mother index". I would like to draw a network digraph using this data, where each daughter is connected to a mother and between the connections inlcude a circle with the information on the indices ("daughter index", "mother index"): i.e. something similar to graphs

Pruning trees in a Random Forest
Hi all! The randomForest in R enables us to prune the trees using the nodesize feature where we can stop splitting a node if it contains less than the specified no.of of records/entities at that node. However is there a way to stop the tree growing after a specified number of levels. To be more clear on what I mean by a level. Level 0 is the parent node, Level 1 has 2 daughter nodes, Level 2 has

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
Hi there, I'm trying to repurpose an unused machine (athlon XP 3000+) for my young daughter to use. It's on a motherboard with a VIA KT880 chipset and VIA integrated soundcard (VIA 8237). The card seems to be detected during boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected, but

Help with RandomForest
...g the getTree function: > getTree(randomForest(veg.physical[,-1], veg.physical[,1], ntree = 20, ), labelVar = TRUE) returns a "list" with dim(tree) 451 rows x 6 columns. I assume that other folks using this package and publishing maps have used this list to link the left and right daughters, split variable, and the split point back to a map. Here is a brief example( just the first 6 rows) of that list: left daughter right daughter split var split point status prediction 1 2 3 TN 32.665 1 <NA> 2...

avoided deadlock/channel already in use
Hello! After upgrading my production machine to 1.2.1(used to be 1.2.0) on friday i experienced strange behaviour yesterday, i received deadlock-avoided-messages and channels refusing to hangup on span1(used for inbound calls), both messages in all cases paired: Jan 9 17:40:01 WARNING[30003] chan_zap.c: Ring requested on channel 0/17 already in use on span 1. Hanging up owner. Jan 9 17:40:01

Can Shockwave apps run w/o Codeweaver's Crossover product?
My daughter likes to play games on noggin.com and nickjr.com. The problem is that some of them will play with Flash 9, which I have installed, but many require Shockwave, which doesn't exist for Linux. Is there any way to get a shockwave plugin to work with Firefox 2.0 and a 2.6.x kernel. My daughter would really appreciate it, and so would I! Marc Shapiro

OT - Windows slowdown?
I know this isn't the right forum for this (do I ever!), but you-all know so much about everything I thought I'd ask. About two months ago I resurrected my daughter's Compaq laptop (cracked screen - replaced it) and ran an update on it. It's running Windows XP, SP1 (I think), but since the update it has run about 1/3 as fast as it used to. Does anyone know if there was a WXP

pup update for mplayer: missing dependency libizo.so.1
I am updating my daughters CentOS 5.2 box. When pup was Resolving Dependencies, I got an error for mplayer: "Missing dependency. libizo.so.1 is needed by package mplayer". Questions: (a) Where do I get that file? (b) How do I install it? TIA! Lanny

TDM400p susceptible to EMI?
I have a TDM400p with 3 fxs and 1 fxo daughter cards. It's in a mini-itx case with a 'right-angle' PCI riser card so the TDM400p is 'sandwiched' between the Atom D525 CPU and the 2.5" hard drive. I'm getting a bunch of clicks and pops on all ports. Has anybody had a similar experience? Did you find a solution? -- Thanks in advance,

Classification tree data structure
Hi there, I am growing classification trees using the 'tree' package add-on to R. I would like to convert the 'R' output to the SAS format used by Salford Systems' commercial CART software in order to interface with some other software. My question is: How can I parse the R tree data structure in order to infer the tree structure? The 'tree' class has a member

party tree coordinates
...s a terminal node, and repeats necessary. Our image processing system uses a coordinate system that labels each node according to its location in the tree (e.g. row 4, column 43). For instance, the first split in the tree is at location (1,1), the two daughter nodes are (2,1) and (2,2), and their daughters are (3,1), (3,2), (3,3), (3,4), etc. etc. on down the tree. It assigns these location coordinates referencing all possible node locations. In other words, if node (2,1) in the above scenario happened to be a terminal node, the daughters of node 2,2 would still be labeled (3,3) and (3,4), even tho...

Help ~
...you very much for your time on this question. It is a little long and complicated. Generate a clustered pattern in [0; 1]2 as follows: (a) Generate n, say 20, independent cluster centers (which can be called parents) that are distributed i.i.d. uniformly in the unit square; (b) then m,say 100, daughters are assigned i.i.d. uniformly to these parents and such that each daughter is located i.i.d. uniformly in a disk of radius r = 0:1 centred at her parent, under the periodic boundary conditions, i.e. the square is converted into a torus. I tried some but can not figure out the whole thing. Thank y...
