Samba and Dataflex
Dear Alexandre,
this problem of data-corruption with file based databases is not a Dataflex
issue, nor is it necessarily a Samba issue. The problem basically is that
when an application tells windows to write data to a file, the data is
normally not written directly to the file but placed in a cache. Windows
then waits till it has some free time and then proceeds to write the data to
the...

Looking for compiled version 1.9 of Samba
I am trying to assist a client who need a compiled version of Samba 1.9 for his SCO ODT 3.2 v4.2 environment. We are trying to connect an old version of DataFlex on SCO and need the bridge.
Anybody have an old compiled version?
Thanks

slow access while crossmounting samba
...w access from the machines to the opposite
mounted share and I don't know what this slow performance can be due to. I'm
not running with oplocks cause the share is accessed only by the other linux
machine (no windows clients) and oplocks produced a few problems with my
database indexes (dataflex) in the past. Thus oplocks and level2oplocks are
disabled. The following is a part of my configuration file:

dabase file and oplocks
Hi all,
I'm using a Linux server (A) with samba 3.0.28 which exports a directory that
contains database files (Dataflex .dat files) and that are mounted by a Linux
machine (B) that runs Samba 3.0.2. Now the problem is that the files are
corrupted when accessed by the machine B, even if the machine A exports the
directory with oplocks = no, kernel oplocks = no and level2 oplocks = no.
Before upgrading the samba o...

Hi All,
I'm really sad that Win2k3 server runs a lot better in a shared folder
that keep a file based database that Windows 9x and WinNT clients.
Explaining it better... Here in Brazil, unfortunaly we still have a lot
business that is based in the old file shared database, like Dataflex,
Clipper and like. Then, they need a robust and fast server to centralize
that files.
With Windows98 clients and Samba 3 server, the performance of the access
to this shared database file is good and because the ultra robust samba
server (based in Linux), this configuration scenario was a excelent...

Can Win32 service more than one rails request at atime?
...This would be done subsection by subsection and converted to Rails, so we are starting now. We have all of the data access working fine, its just some transactions are slow for a subset of the data being accessed.
The database itself is non transactional file based system. The app is written in Dataflex which is/was a sort of 4GL RAD builder that had its own DB built in.
