OpenSSH patches for Mac OS X
OpenSSH Unix Dev,
Mac OS X 10.5 recently shipped with OpenSSH 4.5p1. This build
includes a number of patches, some general bug fixes and some platform-
specific fixes and enhancements. These patches are available from our
open source site (http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5/OpenSSH-87/
).
Following is a brief description of each patch. We'd be more than
happy to see any of these patches integrated into the official
portable OpenSSH distribution.

How to use perl bindings for dtrace on macosx leopard ?
...f those languages.
When I do dtrace -l | grep -i perl on MacOSX 10.5.2. I don''t see any perl providers so I am not sure how I could monitor perl scripts via dtrace
I looked around on Apple''s opensource website and saw this file in its perl source
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5.2/perl-51.1.2/
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5.2/perl-51.1.2/fix/pldtrace.d
Can anybody advise me the steps I need to take in order to dtrace a perl script on MacOSX 10.5.2 ?

i'm using Apple's gcc 4.2.1:
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5/gcc_42-5531/
and the v4.2.1 Tiger equiv from the R-project provided at
http://r.research.att.com/tools/
both Apple & ATT are _already_ well plugged into both .. er .. Apple & GNU.
yes, 4.2.1 is "not distro" ... but it *is* up-n-coming, as evienced by
the fact that it *...

folding Apple tweaks into openssh
...ient: like automagically starting an ssh-agent at login/boot
time and the ability to have SSH passphrases stored and fetched from
the Keychain. It would be nice if these could be considered for
rolling in to a future release of openssh.
FWIW the patches are at http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5.6/OpenSSH-95.1.5/patches
. As far as I'm aware they're open source and not encumbered by
licensing nasties.

The OS is Darwin 8.8 / Mac OS X 10.4.8, a 4.4BSD descendant and
the relevant source may be in netinet/tcp_output.c, found here

Good news is that your diagnosis could bring us forward to resolve
a long running painful bug filed against Mail.app, the Apple email
client.
If you agree, I would like to add your diagnosis to my open bug
report and
cross-post the mail on the Darwin Developers list, be...

Netbooting an Intel Mac
...any farther then
that. As far as I can tell, it's trying to get it's boot info via the "Boot
Server Discovery Protocol". While it's not proprietary, I can't find any
linux based implementations of this. Apple releases the code for for their
BSDP support in bootp (http://darwinsource.opendarwin.org/10.3/bootp-110/)
for Darwin, but I haven't found any Linux based implemetnation of BSDP.
Does anyone know if there is one, or if there is a way to force the Mac to
use regular bootp?

rsync support of hfs+ (osx) metadata? solution from Apple ... ?
...here:
http://www.lartmaker.nl/rsync/
that points out:
"Since OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) the MacOS ships with a modified
version of rsync. An added option, -E, enables the transfer of
extended attributes."
exploring, the current apple patches @:
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.4.8.ppc/rsync-24/patches/
apply successfully only to rsync v263 -- and not to v269.
rather than depending on apple for patches to old versions, dooes it
make sense (is it possible?) to integrate this solution into the rsync
tree?
thanks.

...to make sure a few ldap and kerberos devel rpms were installed, but I
managed to build and install it eventually.
I added:

I followed mainly whats in here:

/ads.html
and succeeded, briefly, in getting it all working (I think) for about 20
minutes.
unfortunately I had to power off the machine as I lost control of it (don't
ask), got the machine back up and running,
and I now dont seem to be able to get it to use AD...

Re: samba Digest, Vol 76, Issue 10
Dear List,
I wonder if somebody has a correctly working SMB service in Mac OS X
Server 10.5.x. I've got here lots of "This process has forked.." and
"Broken Pipe" errors as described in this post: http://www.afp548.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=22295
Would be nice if a Samba-guru could point us to the right direction.
Thanks,

Broken Samba in OS X. Any Alternatives?
We all know that in Mac OS X 10.4, and in the upgrade 10.4.1, Apple
managed to break Samba. Now, I am at a great loss for remote
filesystem mounting. Not only is Samba broken, but NFS is
questionable (I can never seem to get rid of that "incorrect username/
password" error and retain read/write abilities). Also, I'm have
trouble with netatalkd for Debian. Are there any other

Potential Patch
Hey folks,
Here at USC we have a few changes we make to the source code for various
reasons -- and we have to make them for each new version. I always shrugged
off sending a patch in because the changes felt very internal, but the more I
think about it, the more I think perhaps they would be good for the main tree.
Additionally, the more of this that gets into the main tree the easier

PAM sending wrong username to Winbind (fwd)
Hi All,
I have tried logging into ftp using my NT username and password and it
works. It is only SSH which has this problem.
http://216.109.117.135/search/cache?p=pam+NOUSER&ei=UTF-8&fl=0&u=www.publicsource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.0.4/OpenSSH-9/openssh/auth2.c&w=pam+nouser&d=E6EA31C37E&icp=1&.intl=us
The above link gave me this hint. Found it while looking for "NOUSER" and
PAM.
