NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get
NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but
not quite.
Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1.
Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly
from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did
have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

That darned orphaned socket hang
Stephen,
OK, I can now reproduce this hang at will, purely by pulling the plug
on my desktop when logged in and then rebooting - its a gnome desktop
box with few partitions and ext3 on all of them, so I guess its getting
a pile of gnome or ssh related sockets kept in /tmp which is on root
To recap, when the machine is suffering from this, it hangs at the
point of mounting the root filesystem

begin, rescue, end for the whole darn app
Hello.
Imagine how paranoid and ugly code would look if one put a
''begin, rescue, end'' in every action in the app...
With server, mysql, etc errors, is there a way to rescue anything weird
when (not if :( ) it were to ever happen?
Thoughts?

Fonts have changed w/o warning
Newbie here,
I've been installing apps and they've been working pretty darn good. I
don't know what I did (or what an installer did), but now all my fonts
(I mean ALL) are wingdings (or wingding-ish) looking. Obviously, I can't
read a darn thing.
config hasn't changed and my location of fonts haven't either. It
appears to me that some default pointer m...

Locked myself out of MySQL
Darn! I must have either made a typo or my use of a ";" in the
MySQL root password so now I am locked out.
Is there a work around or do I have to uninstall MySQL and reinstall?

Anybody else run into problems with biosdevname .0.5..0-2 changing names
from p2p1 to em1 when upgrading from biosdevname 0.4.1-3?
Darn!
I thought biosdevname was to keep the names the same!!

Dealing with MS Outlook winmail.dat on Linux mail server
Dear All,
Does someone do anything on your Linux (or UNIX) mail servers to convert
darn proprietary MS Outlook winmail.dat attachments your users may receive
(occasionally if lucky) into readable e-mail format.
I know quick answer to my question (good quick answer would probably be:
just trash them). Still, being involuntarily immersed into corporate world
(even at Educational instit...

Short postgrey guide?
Hi Guys,
Are you interested in a brief guide on how to set up postgrey (anti-spam
greylisting) with postfix? I set it up today and it took me a while to
get it working as the config is slightly different from that on many of
the googled guides (many are debian/ubuntu based). The darn config file
lives in /etc/sysconfig on RH/CentOS rather than /etc/default as
mentioned in all the guides I found!
Anyway, happy to write something if you feel it would be useful (below
is a summary of my notes to give you an idea)
Regards,
Ned

how about a "<p-" operator?
I was cursing Matlab again today (what else is new) because the default
action for every Matlab command is to spew the result to the console,
and one must remember to put that darn ";" at the end of every line.
So I just wondered: was there ever a discussion as to providing some
modified version of the "<-" and "->" operators in R to do the reverse?
That is, since R does not print the values of a command to the
console, what if the...

XScreenSaver
...I simply work without it, because I'm annoyed by my users
phoning me and asking me what's this thing with their screensaver being
too old.
As far as I can tell, there would be several solutions to this problem.
1. Ask the EPEL maintainers to keep the application up-to-date.
2. Patch the darn thing so I don't get the annoying popup.
3. Maintain my own up-to-date version of XScreenSaver in my private repo.
Any thoughts about this?
Cheers,
Niki

ColourDialog
The ColourDialog (Darn Brits messing up the spellings of perfectly good
words!) has a weird behavior. When you first open it you can''t select a
color from the ''rainbow'' on the right side until you select a basic
color on the left. I don''t think this was the case before we did the...

SNOM 360 and parking
...d hit the OK button. Call transferred, the SNOM
hangs up before I have a chance to hear which extension it parked to.
Is there a way to make the SNOM phones stay off hook until you
explicitly hang up during a transfer? (my only complaint about these
phones - occasionally they're just too darn smart for their own good.)
I can live without actual snom-style orbits at this time (handy though
they might be), since the current system involves parking the call on an
external line and walking over to another office to say that they have a
call. I imagine that down the road it'll usual...

Awk help
...elay_recipient map in the form of:
Cxxx at xxx-xxx.com OK
The command I am using is:
cat $1 | tr -d \" | tr , \\n| tr \; \\n | awk -F\: '/(SMTP|smtp):/ {printf("%s\tOK\n",$2)}'
Everything up to the awk is working, it drops the smtp: but its putting OK's all over the darn place.
Anyone familiar enough with awk and printf that can suggest why this happens?
Thanks!

anyone running with Horde mail?
Hey again folks ;-)
Seems my auth is working afterall when I telnet to the IMAP port.
But darned if I can get it working with Horde web mail. Is anyone out
there doing this just first of all to confirm to me that the
combination works OK.
I don't care so much about shadow auth since apparantly my pam auth is
working just fine.
thanks,

I was interested to see whether Whaley's algorithm really works
particularly, given its simplicity and the claims made in the papers.
