Backup problems resolved!
...es on my Linux server (a Cobalt Qube) since last November, trying both Seagate Backup Exec and ARCserve but with no success. I've been monitoring this list and tried most of the suggestions, but nothing came close. I'm pleased to say that I've found a solution that works for me ... Dantz have finally release Retrospect for Windows. For the full scoop, check out <http://www.dantz.com>. You can even download a fully functional demo (7.8 Mb) which will work for 30 days. 3.0.8 build failure OS X 10.3.6
I am trying to build 3.0.8 Release on OS X Server 10.3.6 as the latest version of samba installed with the 10.3.6 update (3.0.5) has broken our backup strategy which has a Windows server backing up SAMBA/SMB volumes ( this issue is noted in Dantz Retrospect KB and the solution is to upgrade to SAMBA 3.0.6+). Help with backups
I've got a Redhat 5 server running Samba, and two dualboot CentOS 5 workstations. Until we get a better backup strategy, I'm backing up the workstations to the server via mounting a shared samba drive to /mnt. Trying tar cvf /mnt/samba_share/backup.tar /* eventually yields backing up /mnt, which produces an unwanted loop, including /mnt/samba_share I looked at tar with --exclude /mnt

rsync keeps writing files over
Cool Thanks! Specifically, the timestamps on both <src> and <dest> match for "ls -l" but do not match for "ls -lu" or "ls -lc” The storage is just an regular HDD in a mac pro tower. I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t handle timestamps. Also of note - this problem doesn’t exist for every file, just the vast majority. So, that just makes it more confusing. Yes,
