OSX file creation problems
I am running a REHL 4.3 server with samba RPMs:
3.0.10-1.4e.9
When an os X client connects to our samba server it can copy files from
the server an overwrite other files that already exist. However when it
comes time to create a file, it fails, where this process works
correctly from a windows system. In addition, I can go to where the
volume is mounted on the os X (10.3.7) machine and copy

Upgrade to a new system
Hello,
I have a system that I am preparing to update that currently uses
dovecot for pop and imap (will have same ip as old system). In tests, I
at times re-download data from the server if I have deleted or moved it
in the client and the data is still on the server (just for pop). I am
guessing the UIDs generated are different on the new system. Is there
any way to check and see if they are

Problem with escaped control characters
I have created a program for myself for backing up data to tape from my
disk to disk to tape system, and after the initial day, I have been
using the output of a dry run of rsync to determine what files need to
be sent to tape. I think due to an upgrade in rsync the current version
now escapes control sequences with something like \#010 instead of ^H,
however this is now breaking my backup

Trouble Symbolic Linking
I am running Samba on a FC2 X86_64 machine and I have one directory that
needs to be accessible by two different groups (each group has its own
folder) of people. Instead of creating another share and subscribing
all of each group into another group, I would rather just create the
folder in one directory and soft (symbolic) link it to the directory.
The directory structure works as desired in the

My Net is busted
I cannot find the source of this problem for the life of me. I have a
samba server I have had set up for ages, that I am finally needing to do
groupmapping on. On that system if I do a net groupmap, I get noting at
all returned except for a newline. In fact almost all net commands seem
to not work properly, with the exception of net status. For instance:
[root@file-server sbin]# net

UIDL match from 0.99.13 to 1.0-1.2
I am moving from and old FC2 system to a new RHEL5 system and am having
trouble getting the UIDLs to move over right, mainly the UID.
I copy over the mailbox, and see the x-uid in the message is what it was
on the old server, but when I telnet in to check pop, it rewrites x-uid
in the message to something new, causing old messages to get downloaded
again, which is not what we want

re-linking hard links
Hello,
I have a situation where I have numerous files with numerous hard links
to each of them on an ext3 RHEL4.2 system. Some of these files are
duplicates of the others. I would like to re-link all of the
duplicates to point to a single inode. For instance if file1 has
hardlinks link1 and link2, and file2 has hardlinks link3 and link4, I
need to change it so that link1, link2 (these

Samba 3.0.10 join domain
I have found a fixed my previous problems (two typos that were hard to
find) and now the smbldap-tools all work as expected if I run them as
root. However when I try to join a domain from a windows machine, the
scripts never run and get an "Access is denied message". Since I am
using 0.10 I do not think I can use net rpc rights, so do I need to add
that into ldap manually? Or do I
