Samba 3.3.15 Ignoring "Logon Path" and "Logon Home" to Disable Roaming Profiles

How to debug SID problems
Hi, Is there a tool to debug SIDs on a samba domain. To check that there is no problems with SIDs on the samba server, windows client or user? After an upgrade/reinstall of the samba server, I get an error message on the windows client saying that the profile could not be synced, when the user logs out. There are probably a problem with the machine account or the users SIDs. But I'm new to

samba4wins nbd_server implementation & configuration
Hi, Confused and bewildered as usual, so ask the guys who know. samba4wins is now implemented and part of the samba4 package? Is there a configuration guide? I guess nbd_server needs to be part of the equation so could you point to some resources on setup as I don't think I have noticed anything in the wiki? Probably just me :) Many Thanks Stuart

SOLVED: Re: Windows XP sees fedora14/samba3 shares but not fedora20/samba4 shares
On Fri, 2015-03-06 at 21:59 +0000, Rowland Penny wrote: > try adding 'map to guest = Bad User' to smb.conf > > Rowland > IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU. Now the XP machine can see both the f14 and f20 shares. (It was not even necessary to restart nmbd or smbd on the f20 machines.) Now, if I'm not asking for too much, can you please explain why this worked. :-) Many thanks

Naming Conventions
Hi all, I have looked but cannot find if there is a way on a file share to control the naming convention of files. I’d like if possible for a SAMBA file share to throw up an error if an end user tries to name any of their Word / Excel based files (or any files for that matter) with any of the following: Tilde Number sign Percent Ampersand Asterisk Braces Backslash Colon Angle brackets

Restricting logins using pam_winbind require_membership_of ?
Hi. I have some shares on a server that are offered to specific Active Directory user groups, but the business doesn't want those users to be able to login to the server. If I were to add "require_membership_of" to pam_winbind to limit logins and shut out the users I don't want, would it also have the side effect of denying those users access to the shares as well? I have migrated, users, machines and everything to the new samba4 domain (not in production yet), however when i log and old machine from the samba 3.x domain to the samba 4 domains, the local policy still applies, i suppose

Trouble with user who has mixed case login (upper and lower)
We're having an issue with a user who has a login with mixed case - we'll call him "USERone". Samba does not recognize him; it says that the "user does not exist" even though he does - and we're using the correct case for each letter. We would rename him to an all lower case name, but he there are multiple folders, files, and groups and processes that we'd
