Encoding QT to Theora
Hi,
We're currently editing a video advertizing Firefox and plan to release it
exclusively encoded with Theora during a couple of days (before it hits
YouTube, DailyMotion...).
Editing is done with Final Cut Pro so sources are QT files. What is your
experience of encoding QT to Theora?
For the time being we are not down to testing xiphQT so we're looking for
general advice.
Thank you all,
LF
PS. thanks too for mentioning archive.org, we'll need that kind...

I am using 0.5.4 swfplay player.
When watching some video (for example
"http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/2VqUd9kqyYrzvpr4p"), all the video is
downloaded in RAM before playing.
I don't know if it is the flash player of dailymotion which is stupid to do
that, or if it is a swfdec limitation.
But because the video can be huge, I believe there should be in swfdec
something that limit t...

Simple decoder (keyframe only) implementation ?
Hello everybody !
I am working on a php class to enable, on the server-side, to extract useful data from Ogg theora videos. http://opensource.grisambre.net/ogg .
I need to have it extract a thumbnail picture from a video (much like dailymotion or youtube). Right now, I am doing it using the ffmpeg-php extension (for picture extraction only), but the problem is that this module is available on very few php servers.
I am (still) trying to make a very simple implementation, for INTRA frames only, using the official theora documentation an...

Update on HTML5 video support in browsers and websites
FYI, Anne van Kesteren (he's an Opera developer) has written an update
about the state of the HTML5 <video> element in browsers and big
websites:
http://annevankesteren.nl/2009/05/web-video
Two bits from the post:
1) the YouTube demo uses the H.264 codec, but I guess this will
change if they want compatibility with Firefox 3.5;
2) Chrome uses FFmpeg for the decoding; can this

ThePirateBay.org take advantage of HTML5's <VIDEO>
Word just came in from TorrentFreak that ThePirateBay.org have been
working on a streaming video website for countless months that takes
advantage of the free media formats OGG, Theora and Vorbis.
While filesharing in itself is a controversial subject, this will place
HTML5's <VIDEO> and <AUDIO> tag--and more importantly the OGG
Theora+Vorbis multimedia format--in the

Swfdec 0.5.5 is out

This release is somewhat exciting for us, because a lot of users
mailed in telling us that various video playback services work or
almost work, like the new player Youtube uses for embedded videos,
DailyMotion, Yahoo, CNN, AOL and various others. So let's hope they
work for you, too.
While the users were busy watching videos, the developers did an input
rewrite, so if you previously couldn't click things in Swfdec, there's
a good chance you can do now. For example the seek bar in Youtube
work...
